The catch can from Weistec is insanely priced I built a catch can setup for like $250 using one of the most expensive cans on the market from Mishimoto... Checked the intake after 5k kms and it was bone dry
pretry simple instal too...
the rubber tube actually just seperates from the pcv and the block plug simply use the two ends which already have rubber o rings with I believe -12 hose over each end and voila run the hoses through a catch can done
the only real issue is the pcv hose angle is a little sharp once you run the hose so just make it as gradual as possible
ZephyrAMG That's almost clean enough to eat off of. I wouldn't expect much sludge before 100,000 miles unless the was something wrong with the car or oil.
Not so sure if it is a must or not.
I would assume that the engineers/developers in Affalterbach would have included it. Especially when you can charge the costumer extra dime for servicing it.
I see it more as a peace of mind. If anyone thinks it is needed and has it installed would feel better about.
Besides that I'm just trying to point out hat the build up I had was very little for 95k miles and I drive like a maniac as well. Slow traffic and a lot of idling should cause most of the build up.
I'm not sure if the oil brand or specs make a difference. But I have switched to liqui moly 5w40 leichtlauf instead of mobile one 0w40. Yes yes it is MB approved. One thing I noticed is that the occasional lifter knocking went away.
I think the "they would have thought of that if it was necessary" argument is generally pretty poor. I would have assumed that they wouldn't use headbolts that are prone to failure. Great to see your results though.
