H-pipe and X-Pipe
On my previous car, which was a 6 litre Chevrolet Lumina (Pontiac G8) I played around with different exhaust configurations. I found that when I used an X-pipe I gained power on top. I then switched to an H-pipe, and lost the top end, but picked up at the bottom to mid. I then ran an X and an H together and I gained top and bottom.
We have had similar results playing with my friends BMW V10 M5. Best result was X and H combined.
Anybody done testing on the C63 with an X and H combined, versus just the X or the H.

That was what i was thinking of doing.
Fitting the H-pipe in place of the secondary cats, and the X-pipe in place of the resonators.
From what i have read on these forums, most of the guys do the one or the other.

and there's prolly an equal amount that just straight pipe the whole thing.

I'm sick of researching what to do with the exhaust. I absolutely HATE rasp, so eliminating cats without getting rasp is difficult. Need to add some 100-200 cell cats in place of primaries or mids to keep it to that deep AMG signature sound.
The best thing I've heard so far was an Xpipe in place of secondaries and straights for the res. But I haven't thought about an X in place of secondaries coupled with an H in place of res, might make it even deeper and throatier without adding more rasp. Just a significantly louder stock sound on mild and WOT accelerations.
OP-
You should be the guinea pig and report back with your results for us!

I'm going with Mike's H pipe and Mike's resonator delete(replaced with straights) setup. Will report back when I get they installed (will probably be a while).

Ok
Better to replace the secondaries with H pipe, better responsiveness and torque in the lower RPM and retains the signature AMG bark.
X pipe is better for higher RPM and gas flow, but will loose the AMG sound that we all love
Replace resonator with straight pipes - awesome
at idle no difference
WOT - awesome and loud
See Mike's power pipe - totally awesome
If you doing primaries - long tube headers with X pipe seems to work better then straight pipe the resonator.

H-pipe gives low end and mid range.
X-pipe gives top end.
But doing the X-pipe changes the sound and you loose the signature AMG sound.
I'm looking at bringing in some Headers to South Africa. So a set of long tubes, then the H-pipe to replace the secondaries and X-pipe to replace the resonator.
I reckon it should make good power and sound mental.

Midas. Meineke. Honestly, any decent muffler shop will make that for 100 bucks.

Any decent muffler shop dude, just pick one with good reviews online. It's not hard to make.

I just bought 3 inches pipes a 3" X from Vibrant and have a good welder doing my exhaust. I have no cats and use stock mufflers for the street. The car sounds fine but pretty loud in WOT. I have cutouts for track use and when open it really sound loud.
