Lsd vs non lsd

Daily? Not a crazy difference if you're just puttin' around town in C mode. But there is definitely a difference when you start to dive into the performance end of the car.

On a daily drive you will not notice anything. Drove both at the dealer back to back and couldn't tell the difference. But if your daily drive consists of burnouts and hittin apexs, you might notice it

You guys drive at throttle openings less than WOT? I had an open diff and put in a wavetrac. The car just feels so much more planted. It squats and goes. I couldn't even pull into traffic from my neighborhood without the traction control kicking in. The rain gutter at the side of the road would make the inside wheel lose grip. Now that never happens. There's no more wiggle under hard accelerations. And when driving hard, especially out of corners, the power gets put down. If you find a car you like, get it. Even if it doesn't have an LSD. Just add one later.

Just had my Quaife LSD installed 4 days ago, HUGE difference! Again like stated above, driving around "normally" probably not much difference. Once you start giving it gas, it's a whole different car. More stable, more predictable, so much more fun to drive, power doesn't get cut, "electronic LSD" isn't braking the wheel that is spinning or cutting power. You are able to use the power your car has more efficiently. Powering out of turns, pulling on to the street, flooring it off the line or 2nd gear, over all driving is just more confident inspiring. You feel more connected with the car and what is going on with the rear end. Again only been 4 days but I am enjoying the car so much more!!! I will post a full review as it has been less than a week but so far, it is amazing and can't believe how much of a difference it actually makes.
Before I had the LSD installed, I read ever single post I could find about LSDs. "more connected...more planted...more control.." blah blah. I thought they were making stuff up, no way it could make such a difference. I now understand what they were talking about, they were right. HUGE difference!!
Suggest reading through this page (Birds Auto, distributor of Quaife LSDs) and clicking through all the links. It explained a lot on how the "electronic LSD" works by braking the wheel that is spinning and decreasing engine power, the benefits of a Quaife LSD and how it is different from the clutch plate LSD's. It answered alot of my questions about the benefits of having an LSD.

Thank you for the responses. That seems to echo what my bro said who tested a used c63 performance package. He felt the car was more stable and planted at the rear over mine which doesnt have lsd.

Both Quaiffe and Wavetrac are very good options. I fitted a Wavetrac to mine a few months back, and it definitely makes the car more planted in the rear.
With the Wavetrac I had to machine off a few mm of the diff housing to get it to go into the pumpkin. Apparently this is not required with the Quaiffe.

I think the quaife was more expensive. And the wavetrac engages quicker supposedly. My lexus has a standard torsen type diff. And I feel like the wavetrac engages slightly quicker. Could be in my head though. You won't be able to tell the difference unless you drive them side by side. Just make sure to get new seals and bearings. And the finned diff cover is always nice too.

Why are you asking, are you afraid you'll sacrifice something if you install an LSD?
With Quaife and Wavetrac which are not clutch-type LSDs, you shouldn't feel or hear anything and won't have negative effects or any excess maintenance involved.
You will definitely feel better traction in wet conditions and under power, and if you ever turn off the traction control (on a track maybe) or even put ESP in sport, the loss of grip is more gradual and even between the rear wheels.
I can highly recommend installing an LSD in the C63 (it really needs one), the only thing you'll "lose" is money

Good point. ESP sport is a lot more fun with LSD.

2012 P31 C63 Coupe Trackrat, 2019 GLE63S Coupe Beast
Cliff notes:
Both are torsion-type LSDs and 99% of the time there will be little difference between the two
Wavetrac is cheaper and performs better under zero-load conditions - i.e. when one wheel has zero traction (in the air or on ice) the other wheel will still have power/traction. In the same scenario with a Quaife, it will essentially behave like an open diff

I posted a while back when adding mine - for my '14 507 adding the wavetrac would've required some shaving to make it fit. This is not true for every c63, but mine wasn't the only '14 '507 that had this issue (shaving isn't a big deal, but if you don't want to have to shave to make it fit it's worth checking before you buy). The Quaife fit perfectly. Both are excellent choices.

Same reason I chose the Quaife, didn't want to deal with shaving and Quaife has been around and proven. The Wavetrac is advertised to be better at zero-load conditions. Here is a video I saw on YouTube about that.
It shows one tire on ice and one tire on pavement. It didn't seem to send power to the tire on the pavement in the video as the tire on the ice patch continued to spin.
Lots of people have had the Wavetrac or the Quaife installed, haven't seen anything bad on either one. Quaife went in perfectly and has performed perfectly since install. Can fully recommend the Quaife (also has lifetime warranty).

like others have said, huge difference. I bought mine lacking LSD. I thought the car was pretty fast. Friend bought a C63 also, but with the oem LSD. His car was noticeably faster, especially from a stop. To me felt more solid too. I really regret not getting one equipped with LSD.

Geezus, and that is one car that could really use the help. Its electronics are actually working against it and you need everything 100% off to move at all, but even then. I had a 335 and it was one of the worst snow vehicles I have had. I told this to a family friend who was a former BMW NA exec and he harrumphed about how it was just my driving. About a month later it snowed here and I called him up and offered to let him drive. He took me up on, tho mostly so he could laugh at me I think. When he was done I think the quote was "that thing is ****", which is the first negative thing Ive ever heard him say about a Beemer.

In some other cars (08-13 BMW 3-series for example), it is a real pain and involves cutting and welding to install.

This is true! It's definitely on my list of to do mods. I just hate the idea of paying someone like 800-1000 in labor... Hoping I can get comfortable enough to tackle it myself.
