Glass break sensor?

Anyone know if we can add a glass break sensor on 12-14s?

I got my last car rifled twice, and they know that so long as they go in and out the window and dont open the door the alarm wont go off. I want to do something about that but dont want to drop in a whole other system.

I've looked into it before...not possible due to the data bus.

I was afraid of something along those lines.

So did you put an aftermarket alarm in? If so what did you get?

I priced out an all-bells-and-whistles Viper system at about $1k installed but decided against it at the time because the car was always garaged. Now a new incoming is going to push it out in the driveway overnight so I'm reconsidering. The total cost of the Viper alarm is the cost of the basic system plus each sensor and installation (glass sensor this one which sounds good):

Cool, thank you. Viper installer close to me, think I will probably do it cos my insurance deductible is $500 anyways.

I think it may have a sensor inside the car. I remeber i locked the car with 1 windown open and went to reach inside and the alarm went off.

WOW. Awesome! Thanks, bhamg, that is spot on! Not only does he add a shock sensor but it will send you a text message when it has gone off. He's in Florida, and I am about as far away as you can be on this continent but if he can do it so can someone else. Going to see what I can track down, and will post up.

Great find. Thank you!

While you're at it maybe they can make a good motion sensor like this work also:

Scratch that last comment. I re-watched the video this morning. He mentions using a Mercedes sensor so potentially any sensor used on any M-B may be a candidate (and a good chance for OE BMW sensors to work also). That's an interesting thought.

Found this in a Mercedes online owner's manual:

Tow-away protection

A visual and audible alarm is triggered if the inclination of the vehicle changes when tow-away protection is primed.

The alarm signal is triggered shortly before the wheel leaves the ground if the vehicle is being jacked up on one side, for example.
Tow-away protection is automatically primed approximately 20 seconds after you lock the vehicle.

Tow-away protection is automatically deactivated when you unlock the vehicle.

Interior motion sensor

If the anti-theft alarm system is primed and the vehicle is locked, a visual and audible alarm is triggered if one of the side windows or the rear window on your vehicle is smashed and someone reaches into the vehicle interior.

If the interior motion sensor is primed and the auxiliary heating system more switches on, a false alarm may occur as a result of interior temperature monitoring. In this case, either deactivate the interior motion sensor or switch off the auxiliary heating.

Priming the interior motion sensor

Close the side windows.
This will prevent false alarms.

Lock the vehicle.
The interior motion sensor is primed after approximately 40 seconds.

I had my 09 broken into twice. I can say there was definitely no alarm, cos car is fairly close outside my neighbours window. I wonder if this changes, say from 2012 on...?
Great, now I gotta wade into my storage area for my manual lol.

That was taken from an archived page I found, model of Mercedes unknown. It does indicate that there is an OE sensor/module for those specific functions that can likely be adapted for this alarm. But we are talking E, S or some other equivalent higher-end platform based on this page, not a C.

I'm definitely going to start looking into this on my end also. We can compare notes later.

I would be interested in this as well. Is this part of the Merc system or add on from Mercedes or a 3rd party alarm that piggy backs the system?

604 - That manual page I referenced with enhanced alarm functions is for the G class, apparently for MY 2009.

edit: Also, seems to be for a GB vehicle. not USA.

I downloaded an S class manual from MBUSA to take a look at the OE alarm functions. It also appears to be very basic w/o enhanced functions like shock, motion or ultrasonic.

Anti-theft alarm system
Once the alarm system has been armed, a visual and audible alarm is triggered when someone opens a door, the trunk or the hood.
The alarm will stay on even if the activating element, a door, for example, is closed immediately.
The alarm system will also be triggered when the vehicle is opened with the mechanical key or if a door is opened from the inside.
