2009 C63 AMG
Why introduce coolant into the lubrication system if you don't have to?
Or just hold out until there's a recall 5yrs from now

out of curiosity since from your sig you have a 2010 C63 which would be in the affected range.
have you replaced the HB? if yes, how much and did you just replace the HB or lifters and cams as well?
Will not be doing the valve buckets.
car itself is good shape however pulled 2 codes from the car:
P0300 - random misfire detected (thinking maybe ignition coils need to be replaced)
P0171 - system to lean (bank 1) (emissions related i would think)
need to do some research.
my only question is, if they were to clear the code using the OBDII and then after the sale i drove it for 100km and the light came back on, do i have any recourse?
cause if they simply reset it using the OBDII and send me along... i would have no clue til the CEL came back on.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
or would it be the third picture (obviously you can see all the HB at this point).

With the valve cover removed you can see the HBs. You don't need to yank the cams to see what bolts you have. Just the valve cover.
isn't that a 15 minute job? how come i keep reading/seeing people say it's a 1.5-2 hour job?
both codes are current and would need to be addressed prior to sale. only thing is they could easily just reset the CEL using the obd reading and send me on my way.
now it's time to determine whether to pull the trigger.
what do you guys think, yay or nay?

ok, i'll get a quote and see the pricing on those items as well.
it looks like to me even after purchasing the car i'd be looking at a $5k bill on top of the vehicle to do the following:
1) head bolts, cam shaft bolts, valve cover gaskets.
2) valve buckets (not sure whether it's necessary)
3) maintenance items (coolant, oil, rear diff fluid, brake fluid, spark plugs)
4) engine & transmission mounts (i feel like this can wait until symptons arise)
5) intake manifold
6) front lower control arms
anything else? how does my list look, anything you'd remove/add?

Probably don't need them but another 1k added to #1
~2500 in parts
~2k in parts, easy to inspect before purchase though.[/QUOTE]

the more research i do and look into the C63... for such an expensive car (when purchased new) it sure does have alot of problems and faulty parts.
knowing all the issues the pre 2011 C63's have, would you still buy one?
i mean for an expensive performance car you wouldn't think you would have to shell out $10,000+ in repairs from the head bolts, intake manifold, engine/tranny mounts, valve buckets... i'm sure there are other things i still have yet to read about.
The HB preventative repair cost is low.
Front LCA can be checked and negotiated into the price if they're bad.
Valve buckets are likely fine
IM is likely fine.
I forgot to mention the ESP module lol. That one is another 2k if you have issues with it.
It's a 7+ year old 500hp car for dirt cheap.

is it only the lower that needs replacing? what about the upper?

any specific part you'd recommend for the front LCA?

The "technically" upper arm I think is called a torque strut by MB or something like that. Other suppliers (lots of them) call it a front lower, but that one is not the problem child.
