EMERGENCY - NEED HELP ASAP
Left C63 at home today so that my wife can just vacuum the inside for me and wipe it down so I can wash it when I got home and off to a wedding.
Got home, she told me the car won't start. She was afraid it was because she accidentally stood on the brake pedal and pushed it all the way down. I doubt that has anything to do with it but I figured I'd throw that in there in case I'm wrong.
Whether using push button or actually inserting key, car makes one Loud click and won't start in any way. No other noises or anything besides one loud click.
Tried jumping the battery in the trunk, no result, same loud click. Guessing it's the starter?
Any input/help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a volt meter, kinda sounds like she killed the battery, jump it under the hood on the jump points and leave the jump vehicle running for 5 minutes before you try to start it - also try to run other accessories before you jump as things that need a lot of juice should not turn on, heated seats, sunroof etc.
Also, please tell us how you get your wife to vacuum, extremely interested.

Also, I asked very very nicely (and recently bought her a $1500 MacBook so it could just be a trade off except it was the most expensive interior cleaning I've ever done)

Under the hood on the passenger side there is a metal negative post and then a red plastic cover over the positive post specifically for jumping the car.

I would suggest that a load test once he gets it started would be in order.

What are you using to jump the c63 and how much time did you allow for?
Most common mistakes I've seen here when it comes to jumping these cars is people end up using a prius like car and expect the thing to fire right up moments after attaching the cables.

Turns out it was battery not starter.
Had to keep it charged for a while before it would take.
Thanks for the advice everyone! Wondering how it died though, 26k miles and 4 years.

^ I figured. Like I said, a lot of people just don't expect it to take as long as it does on this car. Just have to be patient.
And who knows why it died. Perhaps you left something on or the wife did while vacuuming.

Yup. Most cars under 11 V and no start. Given it is 4 hr old I would get it load tested to be sure all is good. Not expensive to get good data.

Thanks guys will do.
If it has to be changed, any good alternatives to OEM? I don't want to cheap out and get something substandard, but anything equal to or greater than OEM quality/power but at a lower cost would be appreciated. Otherwise I go OEM.

This is in the ballpark for a good deal right now. There might be something out there for $10 less if you give it a good search.

What I cannot comment on is quality of US or European vs. Chinese.

How many miles? I am 2009 with 70k+... wondering if I should replace as a preventative measure...

Guys. The average life span of a typical car battery is 4-5 yr unless you take extra ordinary steps to extend it and maybe get 6 yr out of it.
If you drive short commutes the heavy discharge of starting the car never gets fully recovered and the battery will stratify. That is a condition where short cycles make the acid at the top of the cell weaker and it corrodes the plates faster at the top when loaded. In addition the denser acid in the bottom of the cells has to compensate for the top of the cell and thus accelerates the deterioration of the whole battery.
If you battery is 4+ yr old take it to any shop, let them fully charge your battery and then load test it. It will tell you a lot about its condition and give you an indication of the health of your battery.
If it is poor this is not a place to skimp on quality for price. $20 morcan get you a lot more battery with higher capacity and cranking amps. A cheap battery will need replacing earlier. As long as it fits the battery box get the best you can.

Thanks, I think that explained it for me. Most days the drive my car sees is startup, 5-8 min drive to work. Sits all day, startup, 5-8 min drive home. Maybe another short drive to the gym 5 mins away. That would explain it. What do you think of the battery that bhamg posted?

Saph - No need to agonize over the battery choice and overthink this. Three mfrs in the US account for almost all the AGM batteries sold under the multiplicity of brand choices in the marketplace. 850CCA is plenty! The Bosch is most likely this one:

If you actually see a real winter with temps under freezing and your car turns over slowly on start, consider using M1/Pennzoil/Castrol 0W-40 if you aren't already. Here the important thing. Alex is correct in stating that your driving style is killing the battery. (And it's not good for your engine either. You end up with unburned fuel as well as water accumulation in the oil driving like that). Get a Battery Tender and use it regularly. It took me literally 30 secs to rig up a "permanent" connection that would take 10 secs to remove. Other connectors can feed out through the grill.
Despite its 770CCA this is the best battery that fits the C63 but I don't see the need to spend the $$$ for most anybody's regular needs with this car. I use a G34R Odyssey in an M for it's deep cycle capability which I need because of the revamped audio system. There's nothing like it out there and it's been worth every penny of the the $340 I spent on it. They are NOT cheap.
