Well since Mr Weistec never answered any of the simple questions posted on their thread about composition, weight, construction, etc, this is the result. They lose sales and we get heavy CF driveshafts. Oh well. Should still make a difference with less joints.

and they do dampen under load so that it's not as much shock to the trans or differential. From what they said the whole unit is half the weight of the stock unit.
Hey Asher. This isn't an attack on anyone, so please don't take it that way. Since none of us had taken off the OE driveshaft to weigh it for obvious reasons, I'm curious about the above. Is this what DSS told you (in bold), and who was it if you remember?
I think a few people are a little annoyed that the DSS unit appears to only weigh less than a pound less than OE, not half. I guess it's our fault for not knowing the exact weight of the OE driveshaft, but I think a lot of people based their purchase off of the statement that it would at least be a material weight savings.
Again, just curious, not attacking anyone here. I'm sure it will stil perform well, just isn't what some of us expected.

The findings on the corvette forum are that they are within one pound of the oe driveshaft as well. Other advantages over steel and aluminum as everybody knows. I'm curious to see if I will indeed see a tenth at the track....
A little disappointed, but it was all speculative.
Thanks for posting up the weights of both units RuckinAMG, this was a vital piece of information.
Not trying to shoot the messenger here, but I'm with BLKROKT- it would be helpful to learn the source of the misinformation that claims DSS unit weighs about half of the stocker, as this statement likely guided many if not all our purchase decisions in this group buy.
Agreed. I did the swap yesterday (didn't have a scale), but was surprised on the weight of the oe unit (definitely not 45-50lbs). I jumped on this buy for the good price and "possible" lower rotating mass.... but should of waited for more info.... but oh well it's installed.

Yeah, Mc81b contacted me today and said he'd be paying on behalf of Revotech.... AND GUESS WHAT?! They never followed up and actually paid. Something tells me that's not going to surprise anyone...
Honestly, it's their credibility that keeps taking a beating. I couldn't care less if they end up participating or not. We have enough without them
Please edit your comment.
I believed I paid Long ago and awaiting my shipment
You guys need some vasoline....without weight savings you only got nice eye candy when your car is on a lift. Live and learn, unless you are building a 1500 HP drag car.

Hey man let's not jump to conclusions. Maybe there's some sort of packing weight stuffed into the shaft for uh shipping stability or something....
Again, on the Subaru forum the driveshaft does provide weight savings.
Another example, this is a for sale thread, not mine.
It has about 12-15 k miles and I removed it before I sold my car. My new Sti already has one and I have 2 now. I don't want to sell it but I really don't need it laying around. The benefits will be noticed from a stock Sti all the way to a full track beast.
It is literally half the weight of the oem driveshaft and weighs about 12.2lbs.
It's really light and makes a great difference in daily driving. It's one of my favorite mods asides from my beatrush motor mounts. No more harsh jerking at low speeds & it absorbed some nvh from my beatrush motor & transmission mounts + TIC rear diff "race" bushings.
According to dss website it can handle 180mph & over 800whp.
Figured I would chime in here as I do feel partly responsible being the one who organized this Group Buy. Asher called Frank, the owner of DSS, and spoke with him while I was back home on vacation for Easter. The info contained in the message from Asher (which BLKROKT quoted in post #127) was given to him by Frank @ DSS. I was surprised too when I felt the weight of both driveshafts and knew that the DSS piece was NOT 1/2 the weight of the OEM. However, keep in mind that there are certainly advantages of a 1-piece driveshaft vs. a 2-piece driveshaft (such as - no carrier bearing robbing effort from the tranny to the wheels).
Hopefully, once everyone has these installed and puts a few miles on the cars, the feedback will be mostly positive as a result of the increased throttle response and (hopefully) decreased drivetrain loss.

Well, wait a second. So you confirm that Frank DID say that it would weight 1/2?
If that's true, and people bought the driveshaft through the group buy in no small part because of that, then that's pretty fuked up if you ask me. It almost doesn't matter about no carrier bearing, as my OE driveshaft was performing just fine. I don't need a pretty piece of carbon fiber that doesn't perform as expected, when I could have put that $ towards one that would have. DSS didn't deliver the product that they said they would.
So how do we return these? Again, no offense to you or Asher at all. But you guys should be fuking pissed too that what was delivered was NOT what you were told. Why are you ok with this?

I'm quite disappointed in what I've read so far. I haven't received mines yet I don't really want to install it anymore . I think I'm going to leave it in the box and try to sell to someone. Had I known I was only saving 1-2 pounds I would've most certainly pasted on this mod and just spent money on the ROW Air Boxes and Eurocharge Tune. I wish there was a way to cancel since mines may have not been produced yet.
On a separate note. I've been on vacation the past week and my DSS driveshaft has been sitting with UPS since Tuesday. I was planning on picking it up with the C63, but I was wondering if it'll fit. Can anyone verify if the package will fit in the car, or should I use the SUV?
Don't dump the old driveshaft yet.
Maybe we can get a place like ACPT to put together one and know from the get go what the weight would be. They would need the OEM one to do this.

Let's see what DSS says today. Maybe that's as light as it can safely get. Most OEM driveshafts seem to weigh more than ours. Wouldn't be surprised if AMG optimized this component.
For reference, it would be good to know the weight of the Weistec unit. I'll call them today if I have time.

Most things I've read say that the Weistec and other CFDS are similar weight because the one long length requires more strength and therefore more weight, versus a shorther throw for other drivetrain configurations.
I can't see how an 8lb driveshaft made out of anything on this planet would work very well. So something is off here. Is there only ONE part number for our driveshaft? Is it possible that it was lightened in the facelift or mid-cycle?
