2014 C63 507 - dealer curb rashes wheel...

So, dealer curbs a rear wheel during service. This has happened before and is the very reason I ask the advisor to look over every wheel when I drop the car off. I don't want a repaired wheel. I want a new one. Do you think that request is reasonable?

No, if they can repair it properly, that should happen. Asking for a new $2500 wheel because of some curb rash is unreasonable.

100% reasonable.

Why deal with not having this match etc. I've have tons of wheels redone and as much as you want to believe they'll all look perfect, they won't.

I don't think you'd win that fight in court if there is no structural damage to the vehicle.

No. It's cosmetic. There's probably a limit to what they will pay.

It's probably a grand to them. I'm peeved because my math says that someone other than the tech put an additional 2+ miles on the car while it was there.

List is $2,500 or so. You're right that they're cost is probably lower. $1,000 for some cosmetic damage is unreasonable. To be honest, I had a hard time seeing the damage in your photos.

I think it would be so tough getting a wheel out of them. Honestly you'd be lucky if you got it even fixed. What proof do you have that you brought the car to them in absolutely pristine condition?

I don't know what dealer you go to but when I drop my car off they come out with a tablet and take pictures of all angles of the car and close ups of all the wheels.

you do this together with the service advisor and he walks over the car with you and you sign saying the exact condition the car was in.

Have them refinish the wheel first and see how it comes out. Then if it doesn't look good go from there.

Btw, your car deserves better tires than those Sumitomos..

did you see where I wrote that I had the advisor look over all wheels when I dropped it off?

I would say yes, and the reason why is that it hopefully gets the dealership to keep their employees honest and from abusing customers cars. So yeah, try and get a new wheel.

agreed. Plus step wider in size would help prevent future damage.

I've had dealers repair wheels they've damaged and the paint was garbage (Range Rover). Push for a new one.

They need to make you whole if they caused the damage. A brand new wheel might be asking too much but they certainly need to repair that curb rash. Do they repair wheels onsite or use a local shop? If they're going to fix it you have the right to know where.

+1 on this. I bought an '09 C63 that had Sumitomo's on it and I always thought it was the car causing small vibrations at higher speeds. Then I put a set of Michelin PSS's on it and all vibrations stopped. Plus I got almost 2x more life out of the Michelins.

I would try the repair and see how it comes out.

I would be the same and want a new wheel, had a so called good wheel company try to repair one of mine made a mess of it by putting a deep milling line round the whole rim so made him buy me a new wheel!

I got 3/4 of my exhaust replaced under warranty for slightly corroded tips and they still gave me the receipt just to keep and that was alot more than one of the 507 wheels so no harm trying.

Exactly. More often these not, these repair truck jobs are slightly better than a can of spray paint. Why do you deserve that, when you brought the car in with a factory finish?

Also, those Sumitomo HTR ZIII's are fantastic tires to those saying the C63 deserves better. FYI.

Doesn't a dealer have insurance for these types of things?

Wheels get nicked. Paint gets scratched. Cars get used and dirty, and you can't prevent everything. But something like this would be considered normal wear and tear I would think, since it's only cosmetic and can be buffed out pretty easily. Keep it in perspective. Does it suck, well sure. But it's not like they were joyriding your car and hit something at high speed, destroying a wheel. That rash is probably from an under-5mph brush with a curb. If you did that yourself, you wouldn't even think about a new wheel. Do you really want to fight this hard and be an *** to your dealer, or be a reasonable person, let them fix it and maybe give you a free service or something, and keep a good relationship with your SA. They remember. And if you have a big problem later, playing this one cool will pay off 10x down the road. Just my 0.02.
