Should I Trade in '12 C250 for '08 C63?

Hi guys, new here, first post. Need your opinions regarding a possible trade.
I have a 2012 C250 4Matic (Canada) with 80,000km on it and I'm looking at a 2008 C63 with 160,000km. The C63 would come with a 2 year warranty up to $5k.
If I made the switch, I would be paying $50 more per week than what I'm paying now.
What do you guys think? Is it worth it or am I being stupid?
Thanks!

So you would be paying $200 more per month, on a car that is 4 years older with double the miles?

I would pass on that, even though it is a C63. There are some things youre gonna miss like the updated interior.

BLKROKT, SaphGreyC63, thanks for your opinions.

There are actually things I prefer about the '08 interior to my '12. Not necessarily for looks but just in terms of features. Bucket seats, memory seats, GPS, paddle shifters, etc. My 250 doesn't have many features, so the interior looks more modern but actually has less features than the 63.
Plus I hate the lack of power in my C250. But aside from all that, I'm thinking more in terms of value. My car goes for about 17-20k on Autotrader. I think the C63 is worth more than that. Just not sure if it's worth $200 more per month.

(All my numbers are $CAD)

Seriously, if you can't figure this out by yourself, then don't do it.

Agreed with others. Too many miles (though the C63 is built like a tank). You can find better deals/offers out there.

Buying is not the issue. Maintaining is. Many people can afford to buy, but maintaining is where the real costs come in, especially on an older car. If $50 is something you are even considering for your budget, I would pass.

Hi Chris, thanks for your input.
The extra $50/week is not my issue. I'm just wondering if it's actually worth it to make the trade. I thought a 2008 C63 would be worth more than a 2012 C250 even if the mileage is doubled but it seems I'm probably wrong.
How much do you C63 owners spend on average for maintenance?

I am probably on the low end of maintenance around here due to lack of miles driven and I still spend about $2k a year on that. Also, you need to factor in probably double the gas costs compared to your C250 along with higher insurance costs.

Good advice.

I stepped out of a 230 Sport into a C63.
I miss the 230. It was low maintenance, low consumption.
Relaxing, reliable, quite, nice riding car. Plus yours has the 4matic.
And newer electronics bluetooth etc.

The 63 is a mass consumption vehicle.
If you're budgeting for one, it might not be a good idea.
You'll be tripling fuel consumption, tire consumption, servicing costs, even the windshield washer fluid seems to pump like a hydrant and needs filling more often. My '09 won't read my new Iphone so i can't stream music.

It might seem like the AMG will change your life.
If you're living well within your means, that's the best place to be for now.
You don't wanna wade into the deep end and have to sell it to find yourself in something less than you started with.

Good luck!

Maintenance is not all that bad on this car. I won't go back 4 years on a car especially if more miles.

Forget the 5K for 2 year warranty put that money towards a 2011 or newer.....

If you want the C63, in this case If I were you I would sell the C250 and then ues that money to find a little newer C63. Still make about the same payment on a better car (less mileages).

My expenses last year:
-$1200 on tires.
-$300 on oil changes (labor included)
-400 on 80k service (labor included)
-$600 on trans service (labor included)
-$300 on O2 sensors
-$900 on engine and trans mounts (labor included)
-$1300 on front brakes (I upgraded, so probably $500 for normal parts)
-$150 on intake mani gasket and PCV valve

The car is in the shop right now for headbolts, lifters, and weistec pulleys. I have a dead MAF sensor so I swapped to ROW boxes as well. Total is around $5,000. A low mileage car will be much less maintenance. Things that are stressed significantly just wear out. Not to scare you, but my prices do not factor in labor as I did a lot of that myself. I have 85k miles and need new rear brakes and all 4 tires as well. It adds up quickly.

You make very good points. I've come to realize it's not as good a deal as I first thought it might be. Gonna stick with the C250 for now.
Thanks for the feedback!

A bit late to the party....

I would personally go with my own gut. The year difference should not impact the decision in my opinion. If that was the case than we would not see legendary cars from the 90's driving around that cost triple their original msrp. It's all about what you want. Some people think that I'm crazy for paying 30k for a used c63 when i could have bought a brand new c series for few grand more.....

If you get that jittery feeling in your tummy about the car then go for it. I have no idea how some of these guys spend 10k in manintance a year, that's a joke. They must track their cars every weekend.

I would NOT recommend this car if its your daily, and you drive more than... I would say 40+ miles... you will literally be filling up every other day... to the point where you will probably sell the car. I'm lucky that my job is 4 miles away from my house. I fill up 2-3 times a month if I'm lucky.

I would NOT recommend a c63 if you are going to drive it like a granny. I'm not saying go out there and speed, but these cars deserve a heavy foot. Which again result in bad MPG. You will go through rear tires like there is no tomorrow. My goal is to get 10k out of my rears. Which means, be ready to spend roughly 400-600 on rear tires every 10-15k miles.

I'm not sure if I missed the price of the c63... that would be the major factor whether this is a good idea or not. But I'll tell you this, you will have a grin on your face every time you sit in your c63... im not sure if you can get the same feeling in your regular c series.

Its seems to me that many people here like to fabricate things to maybe make themselves feel better or because the car is getting cheap and they don't like seeing newer members picking up these cars. Elitist mentality.......

5k-10k a year lmao you guys must be celeberating 4/20 early. OP get a 2012+ so you don't have to worry about the headbolts.

Oil changes can be done for around 85-90 at the dealer. Brakes rotors/pads can be found for under $450 for the set if you are handy at googling and searching around. Tires depends on your driving and can be found cheap. Motor/tranny mounts are cheap and a shop that has done it before will charge you a good price. Toronto has alot of C63 and shops for C63.

I paid $80 in labor for my mechanic to do the brake job on the C63. He would do the oil change for $65 but I like going to dealer and getting a loaner and eating free snacks. There are tons of shops around here.

I drive alot and aggressive so I am at the gas station often. When my gf drives the car on a long trip we can squeeze out 320-335 out of the tank just cruising.

Get the car and enjoy it man. The c250 must be so slow.

its the same with the range rover people and some audi models. I have seen it so many times, people that "buy" new or CPO only go to dealer for servicing and then cry car is expensive. If you go to dealer always you deserve to get charged up the ***. Take some time google around, look for new shops make connections and you'll be fine.

Do you want bills? They aren't lying.
While I don't know them IRL, I've seen the work that these fellow forum members do, and they do a lot of work themselves.

Plus factor in headbolts.
