Need Advise - E400 vs C63

Hi all,

I've been fairly active on these forums years ago. A lot of helpful information on here and I missed the community. I come to you with a dilemma. A year ago I bough a 2016 E400. It still has a factory warranty and so far I put on 20,000 km on it with zero issues. Its a perfect car.... Yet, I am tempted by a 2010 C63 with relatively low mileage (about 50,000 miles)...

I used to own a W211 E55 and a CLS63. I miss my AMGs. The reason why I want a 2010 and not the W204.2 (2012+) is because I LOVE the styling of pre face-lifted C63s...

The C63 has good history and looks solid. I know about the head bolt issues so I don't want to go into the reliability talk (I'm getting rid of a car with a factory warranty!!!).

What do you all think? I know its more of an emotional decision...

Totally different philosophy in those two cars. Not sure I concur re PFL vs FL but that is what makes life in a C63 interesting. I guess the only concern I would have is can you get a decen buck out of the E400 such that you fulfilled your enjoyment quotient with the car for the money you will lose. Also I would want to see a really good record on the 2010. It is after all at least 7 yr old. I stepped back from a 2015 CLA45 AMG to a 2013 C63 with all the goodies including the performance package and never regret it.

Personally, I would never buy a non-AMG Mercedes, so I can see why you miss your AMG's. I also prefer the PFL looks over the FL. What's the price on the C63 and how much would you get for the E (if you are selling it)?

Red, or black, or white or grey - what color should I paint my car? What's the BEST color? Someone please form an opinion for me!

Hey man, seeing the wisdom/experience of the crowd and opinion of others can be the difference between making emotional decisions and well informed ones

Ignoring what I see as humour re colour would you like to educate me on AMG door pins and Euro cup holders with pics?

P.S. Opal Fire Red is good!

Ok for what it is worth last I saw my car it was hanging on a hoist, no front wheels, no front pads and they were about to start the process of removing all that they have to remove to R&R the AC evaporator/condensor and they gave me an E400 as a loaner for the weekend so I can offer a further comment.
Of course it is totally different than the C63. Being the 3L biturbo even in Sport+ mode you can feel the turbo lag. If you run it in Sport+ mode for engine mapping, steering etc. it gets close to the C63 in performance but it still feels light and skittish to me. My bet is the W204 C63 with the performance package will beat its ***.
The bloody car is just so gimmiky. They have this football field sized screen - minor exaggeration but it is huge compared to ours - so they seem to feel they need to fill it with stuff.
The NAV screen is so big that if you zoom out normally all you get is primary roads. You cannot scoll in all 4 directions easily to see where a road goes unless there is something in the huge menu I have not found.
On the radio, you can set presets but unlike us where for example CBC is #2 in my car you have to scroll either with the touch button on the wheel or use the Comand controller. The cover over the controller has function and is so sensitive as is the button on the wheel that it drives you crazy as things change so easily.
Fuel economy of course is better and it has the ability to do the ECO start/stop thing. You can set up an individual package for handling and engine. I found the pre set Sport+ too quirky so I set it up for Sport ride and Sport + engine map for around town. On the highway I put the engine map in ECO, ride to comfort and left steering at Sport.
There is just a lot of sub menu stuff I have not gotten into and it goes back late tomorrow or early Tuesday.
Would I buy an E400 after having had mostly E class in my 11 MB cars over 30 yr.?
I would rather buy a W212 E63 or just keep my W204 E63.
Just my views having just had the opportunity to drive an E400. I am sure others will have differing views and that is just fine. To each his own.

I think you mean Fire Opal Red. Rookie.

But I concur. I've cast the chicken bones and read the tea leaves. Silver is the best choice for you BLKROKT. You should also update your signature to include the roof rack you have.

Got that. Just thought I would play along given the darkness of this forum lately.

Fail, BR.

With wrap technology, you can have them ALL! Just get it changed out every month.

Problem solved.

Can I get a wrap that changes with the color of my car like the mood rings?

Thanks

Unless you got money I wouldn't trade in a car that was recently purchased espeacially if it still had a warranty. Granted I prefer my cars with no warranty cause I modify them.

Im not sure of your sitituauton but I'd add that c63 to the stable and keep the e400 as well.
