reputable shop in bay area for preventative head bolt work

Hi Guys,

It's been a while since I've posted on the forum but I do always check it everyday and wanted to say thank you for all the vast knowledge everyone provides. I did some searching but wasn't able to find anything on this topic. I live here in the Bay Area (East Bay) and wanted to ask if anyone on this forum has done the preventative head bolt maintenance from any shops in the Bay?

I have a 2010 C63 with 90k on it and so far it's been running good but my extended warranty ends this September so if i don't see the head bolt issue by then, I'd like to do the service to get the head bolt issue fixed before it happens because I plan on driving the car into the ground

I have a few shops I've done work from but before I reach out to them, I'd like to see if anyone here has had any first hand good experiences with any shops in getting this service done. I would appreciate any feedback, thank you!

Also looking to do the same in the Bay Area for my new-to-me '11 C63. Let me know what shop you decide to go with!

OP, were you planning to do the SLS valve buckets/lifters as well for preventative maintenance since you're taking the head apart?

Sure, will do! and yes, I'm going to do everything I can when I do the service, hoping to get some feedback from those who have done it as well on exactly what they did and any parts they may have purchased too

lol, the only reason I have all the mods listed in the signature is because people kept asking what I had done to the car from the previous photo-shoot threads i had posted, was just to help anyone out in case they were wondering exactly what had been done to the car without them having to wait on me to PM them back

i'm in the process of having my headbolts replaced at a shop in Sunnyvale as well as leaky o-ring behind the timing cover. as the o-ring that is used eventually fails, i'd recommend doing that at the same time. Once my car is complete I can let you know how it turns out. they do all my work.

AMG3.2 - Thank you so much for the recommendation, I just talked to the shop and they seem like a really good group of guys. I'm going to go with them for the job when time comes. I was originally going to drive down all the way to San Diego to do the job but now I can drive 15 minutes to drop the car off .

Out of curiosity, when you did your headbolt job, did you also replace your valve buckets with the SLS valve buckets? The shop told me people will usually do both since the heads are off anyways but I'm not too sure if they are worth the $1,000 investment.

hachiroku - are you upgrading to the SLS valve buckets?

For anyone curious, shop quoted me about $3500 for the entire job (parts/labor/tax) so a good deal in my eyes. If you want to upgrade to the SLS valve buckets, then it will be $4500.

I didn't go with the SLS (M159) valve buckets. I went with the revised version of the M156 buckets (156-050-02-25) instead as I really didn't see much of a reason to go with the M159 buckets. More info on this here (post 47): https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...adventure.html

agreed. i used AMG3.2's thread as a reference to what parts to order and why. its a very good read. along with his parts list i also added on updated valve covers, all pulleys, tensioners, waterpump, gaskets, etc from the whole front of the engine. i had an oil leak from photo included below, so i opted to do my headstuds at the same time, as well as other items. all of the o-rings on my 2007 E63 used o-rings that over time harden to rock and then split. i'm not sure if and when Mercedes might have switched over to updated green o-rings, but when i purchased a replacement i was handed a green o-ring versus a black o-ring. the parts guy told me this is the updated part. i had a previous failure at the oil cooler hardline as well. my idea is to update all things so my car does not need another service for another 100k miles. valve covers weren't needed, but i had to replace a broken one. i already completed a replacement of transmission conductor plate 30k ago, so after this my car should run for a kajillion miles.
