First issue with my new to me c63 .
Hey guys so last month I purchased a 12' c63 with 38k the cars service history was always was all up to date and done at mercedes . Now I installed some ROW intake boxes and yes K&N filters about 2 weeks ago and today after a long drive I received a check engine light ( P0171 + P2187 ).. I triple checked my install to make sure all was sealed , other then the light car runs and drives fine . I'm gonna see if cleaning my mafs will take care of it . Any input will be appreciated .

Nice , im not new to the forum world at all so all this nonsense can be kept to yourselves. Yes I can "simply" search and come up with other peoples issues the "might" be just like mine but that's not always the case.

I honestly dont get why you are being so uptight.
We had a little laughing back and forth between the two of us that was not about you and had nothing to do with you, was just two guys being goofs on a Saturday evening and you gotta rag on us for it. On one hand you are posting saying that you will say whatever you want, but on the other hand basically telling us to STFU. So you have freedom of speech but we don't?
No idea how that computes. Sorry for having fun.

I had had this issue with KNfilters. Switch to dry filters. THe oil from the KN can colllect on the MAF. This can cause the error. (From what I have read and my own experience)
I still get the the check engine light but usually when it's time to clean the filters.
I tried the the dealer but they stopped as soon as they realized I had ROW boxes. I played the "baught it like that " but they would not do any further work.

So I I decided to remove and re install the whole filter system and also clean some dust out of the actual filter boxes, I bought some CRC Maf cleaner and sprayed my sensors down and buttoned it all back toghther. So far is been two days with mixed driving and no check engine light , smooth idle. I assume the filters still had some residual oil left on them that collected onto the sensors which tripped the light . Fingers crossed so far so good .

So THAT'S what's happening with KN filters!! I've seen a few members post about how they'll never go back to KN filters again, but I genuinely never bothered to see, why. I, as well as countless others in the automotive world, swear by KN quality in their filters. I've run them for years and never had an issue. However, with that being said, I just might switch out KNs and go dry... Also, give my MAFs a quick spray down with MAF cleaner. Don't wanna deal with that nonsense

Yes I was fully aware of the K&Ns causing issues on certain cars with maf setups. I simply did it to mark things off that could cause the light i was getting and it worked so im happy.

The problem of oil upsetting the MAF is pretty common. In theory, it's not supposed to happen if you get just the right amount of filter oil on the filter, but, hey, who can do THAT? Especially when there is no guidance given as to how much oil that IS?
That's why I stopped using oiled filters on my vehicles years ago.
Of course if the engine feeds the PCV output into the system upstream of an MAF, that will get oil into the MAF too. On Harley's, HD feeds the oily PCV output into the inside cavity of the air filter, but they don't use an MAF with heated wires that gets screwed up by the oil, so the only issue is carbon buildup in the heads if you don't give it lots of throttle frequently enough to "blow the carbon out".
Harley also provides some comparative test results if you go looking hard enough to find them. They show that at least with the filters they tested, the best airflow was from a DRY filter.

A friend of mine uses this thing called "303" - he applies it all over the bay and it breaks down the dirt...then he uses his pressure washer lance from distance and medium power to haze it off...his engine bay is immaculate.
My own engine bay is appalling.
