Racing Brake XT970/960 racing pads

I upgraded my brakes to Racing brake BBK but went with the street version pads, I don't daily the car and when pushing the car on track or canyons the pads just don't bite as well as I would like, thinking of switching to their XT970/960 race pads or other brands of pads anyone with experience with these pads?

I usually run my leftover XT970's as my "street" pad with my RB BBK. Tried them on track, and they overheated and smeared unfortunately - I just don't think they're the right compound for our cars. I've been using the Carbotech XP12 for a couple seasons now, and they're amazing on track (I actually keep them on 24/7 during track season as I don't put on a ton of miles and they're not terrible cold, but a little noisy)

That's what I'm after, I drive the car on sundays in the canyons around here and the occasional track day, I rather have a more performer biased pad.
The XP12 also are priced a little better, Is there a specific size or something to fit our calipers since the fronts were modified and rear rotors are not stock?

Brake pad size is no different among the C63 variants - normal, 507, Black Series are all the same.

I don't think they stock the right size for the C63, we had to order in bulk last time. Worth a check if you want to contact them directly.

Hawk DTC-60 is another option if the Carbotech XP12 is a recommended compound.

Yup, I have a set of the DTC-60 as backup. They're a little harsher on rotors than the XP12.

I called Carbontech, the lady there insisted I go with the XP10 as he thinks the XP12 is too aggressive, I have read in multiple places that sells the XP10 that it is not recommended for the weight of our cars - I told her that and the she said the guys there argue their dealers are wrong - Confusing!

Also she recommended going with a step down on the rears to balance the breaking (xp10 front & XP8 rear) , something similar to what RB doing with their performance.

I don't like to worry about brakes. XP12 is exactly the right pad for the way I drive on track, and it's good to have too much brake versus too little IMO.

I'm with you on that... I just found it confusing that they contradict a few of their own dealers

Quick question with those running xp12 (mainly blkrokt). I was looking on the website and noticed they have higher "speced" pads namely xp 20 and 24? Any reason as to why you run the 12 over them? Cost?

Because the 12 is enough. It is the perfect amount of brake for how I drive and the weight/power of the car and capability of the brake hardware and tires. XP12 was too much on street tires (overpowered traction), just right on rcomps.

More extreme brake compound is not always the answer. I think the higher XPs are more for endurance racing - harder compounds, tougher on rotors and take longer to get to temp.

I’m very happy with the XP12 on my RB BBK and don’t see that changing anytime soon.

To add, maybe helpful I'm drunk so **** you, I ran XP10 and XP8 on my Miata, and those were crazy brakes. Going too far up with make the car useless for street driving.

On my CLK BS I use PAGID RSL1 (same pads for C63 AMG) and I am really happy with but noisy at low speed brake

Ive run the Xp-10s, and I could totally see going with the 12's, and would if/when I get a do over.
Ive used the Hawks also, but only have one day on those so cant comment re rotor wear.
I got them for free though, so I can forgive a little extra wear if thats the case.

Did you run xp10s on the track or street? If on track were you on rcomps? Or regular street tires?

thanks!

Any observations about how the RB and Carbotech pads compare to OEM in regards to dust?

I bought mine from a member who had never used them.

If you want less dust, go with the Porterfield R4S, they are very clean and quiet, but they wont stand up on the track any better than the OEM,
some will say not as well.

Porterfield are much worse on track than OEM.

Carbotech make crazy dust and it can be difficult to remove. It’s just part of the deal.

Their 1521 pads which are their street pad offering dust very little, and super easy to clean off. I ran them on my M5, and will put them on the C63 once the stock pads wear out.

Can’t speak on their track pad offering as I’ve never used it but BLKROKT has.
