i think this kid is lucky to be alive, not sure how much benz engineers had to do with that... all his airbags deployed ... as they would on any modern car
that being said, is I was as stupid as this kid I would want to be in a benz during any horrific car accident

I've been 140 mph... but that was with safety gear on the back straight of cota. I can't imagine doing this on a 2 lane highway with trees/houses around!
Do you think they were testing the top speed delimiter on the 507 eD????? 157mph..... guess they were successful.

Article is from 2015. If I remember, the driver fled the country, returned to Hong Kong, but was stupid enough to come back for his citizenship ceremony and was promptly arrested. I think he was charged, and sued.

The timing and part of the country is interesting.... I bought some 507 parts from a black wreck from the PNW off fleabay last year....... full set of brakes.... and only the rear 507 rims.

Not long after the crash, I saw the hole in the brush left behind and it was pretty wild.

Pretty harsh guys....... name calling, references to wishing people's death and demise..... sounds more like we are on a blue collar union workers site than a high end marque enthusiasts site......
Not defending the kid.... but I do recall some close calls as a kid in a way over powered car with drum brakes...... pretty sure no-one hoped I was dead. Or at least.... 'as far as I knew'

I don't want to sound harsh, and yes, we are on a high end marque enthusiast site. As a member of a high end marque, I don't want anything like what this kid did associated with me. As a dad who has driven that road with his 2 year old, this both pisses me off and scares the hell out of me. You don't get to put others lives at risk so flagrantly and get a bye from me is all.
Anything even close to that speed belongs on a racetrack, which is what the responsible members of a high end enthusiast marque do.

18 and a v8. Yeah dumb mom who apparently bought it for him. Come on. Any teen in a car like that, what do you think. I got in my first accident driving a v8 as a kid too you want to try out the power and don't know how. Too bad. Glad they are ok.

At the high school near my business partners house there is a baby blue Aventador with an N (new driver) sticker. Can you imagine giving your kid an Aventador in high school? Most of these are kids whose parents live in China still, and they have an allowance/trust fund and go get the car themselves, signed for by a relative.

What this kid did was stupid. Not general stupid. It was reckless. It was grossly negligent. He was speeding well in excess of normal childish ignorance, and well beyond what a reasonable would do on the road in question. This was not a highway.
This was not the result of a deer or some unexpected intervention. The kid crashed because he was going way too fast on a road not designed for those speeds.
His passenger paid the price for his stupidity.

A lot of people are wishing the kid died and blaming the parents and saying the young kids do not mix with the high powered cars.
Simlly saying this could have been anyone at anytime. we all driving high performance cars I'm sure not everyone always behaves on the road after all we wouldn't have paid so much for a car like this. We would have bought a corolla or a Camry or a c250.
if you guys are saying you don't occasionally speed and have a fun time once in a while I don't believe that. Any of those moments can turn out like this in any car civic or corolla or AMG at any age.
