For you non cats guys try this

Was at my shop and was going over what setup to go with and they said they had a few guys pass without cats using catted O2 bungs.

Little catalytic converters in a 90 degree bung that the O2 sensor plugs into.

It's worth a shot as they are like 20 bucks on eBay and wanted to pass the info along.

Spark plug gappers can also work. I used one when I installed headers on my first car and it kept the CEL away.

That won't allow you to pass smog, however.

Got a link to the parts?

I need to do a smog test this year, have no cats in the car at the moment.

Nice find dude. I think my CA emissions exemption ends next year, so I'll need a solution too.

I'll ask what brand they are using but for the time being you can search O2 catalytic bung 90 degree on eBay and they should come up.

It's my biggest issue with the car right now as I know 2 c63 that got flagged with O2 shut off in the tuning

For once I'm glad that I own a C63 in Ontario. Only emissions/smog check is when purchasing a used car. Then you can mod the hell out of the exhaust and nobody will give you trouble.

Really not bad.

My friend is lucky he bought his car in new Jersey and they do inspection every 7 years and he lives in Maine and he is keeping the old inspection on the car.

He gets pulled over all the time and needs to explain to the cops it's a valid sticker and his state allows it from other states.

We need a sticker every year even for emissions (used to be every other year) and he is driving around with out cats for 5 years now without needing a sticker lol

At the risk of causing a depression in the exhaust flow, perhaps try gutted out oem cats (or something that looks like a cat) and run them after the headers?

I don't know how stringent they are for you guys in the usa, but over here, if there's a cat, even on a sports exhaust, they wont bat an eyelid (well, for the visual inspection at least)

Ok that's what I want to hear!

So you are showing all passed on the monitors?

Are these the ones you got? I don't mind paying more because eBay has some for 35 but not chancing them

Those are the the ones I got. Just had them installed last week, and my tune has the 2nd set of cats turned off. I haven't flashed it back to another tune to see if there were any errors to be honest with you.

Ok let us know when you get a chance to see if they work.

I just got some cheap ones off eBay and will report back also.

I can get away from visual inspection no problem it's our OBD2 scan that is hard to pass.

If you car goes from 1 year ok then the next O2 not ready it will flag for strict inspection because O2 will pass readiness fast and will either say pass or fail and if it's in a lingo you will get flagged now in my state

Same thing here in Toronto,

No visual inspection, just an OBD check to see if the monitors are active.

Any of us running headers without cats, have the monitors off.

Curious to see if the FABSpeed ones work.

Quick Fleabay search turned up these guys.

Damn you get flagged?? That's harsh. Over here we'd get...well..the same I guess.

Ok now it makes sense. Sorry, I thought the thread was about ways to be catless and pass visual...serves me right for skim-reading on my way to the gym

i have these in 2 of my other cars, currently also olin my c63 but still fighting codes unless my rear o2 sensors took a crap. But I'm still catted with ARH headers.i ordered another o2 to give it a shot. I'll report back but the 90 degree big daddies usually work really well.

That would explain it then, is that common with extension harnesses?

I've run 90° O2 extensions on two cars in the past, and had no issues passing inspection with all sensors ready. I haven't done this on the C63 since I still have my primary cats, but I imagine that it would still work. This trick has been around for well over a decade. Back in the day, people would drill out and stack a pair of "Spark Plug Antifoulers" to gap the rear O2 sensors from the exhaust stream. I wouldn't do that today as there are far better, 90° extensions made out of corrosion resistant stainless steel in the event you want to remove them in the future. Make sure you use antiseize on all the threads.

I have spent over 600 trying different o2 sensors, extensions, bungs, spacers etc and tried 3 different sets of hi flow cats,200 cell,300 cell and even 400 cell and still pended rear efficiency codes.

after spending months trying to figure it out oetuning said to take out the wire extensions. I had bought 3 different brands and that was the issue.the wires change resistant values and trigger codes.

my final setup was just 15 dollar Ebay o2 extenders welded close enough to not have to use wire extensions and the car passed .

I even had the rear o2 sensors plugged before my hi flow cats because the stock wires dont let you install the bungs past the cats.
