MCT vs 7G
So this has been bugging me for a while. It seems like all of the really fast M156 cars (well, W204's being lighter of course) are the pre-facelift ones with the conventional auto tranny, because 1) they can do burnouts and 2) they can be launched aggressively without that horrid delay that the MCT has. Just one look at the quarter mile database and even looking at threads of the fastest N/A and charged cars all have the 7G.
But then I've seen the odd video on youtube and MCT cars are doing burnouts, which confuses me a little because my car doesn't spin the wheels at all unless it's raining.
I'm not really sure what I'm asking for here, but perhaps just thoughts and personal experiences with the two types of transmission. Like...if the issue was traction related, I could work on stickier rubber and suspension set up etc...but the half second delay and then initial rollout before the car decides to haul is really irritating. Any solutions or tricks that I'm missing here? I know the M157 E63 guys have this issue also and from what I can see, there isn't much that can be done about it.

I can do burnouts for as long as there is still rubber on my wheels. I know two other C63's with MCT and they have done burnouts at the tree and in parking lots.
I am 100% positive the MCT does not have any problem with doing burnouts.

Thanks man.
What am I doing wrong? With traction off (not in sport) shouldn't i be struggling for traction when i try to take off at anymore more than very light throttle? My car just rolls off for a couple yards, then takes off. Sure it might spin at that point in transit, as it goes through 1st gear, but that's not what I'm trying to achieve here. Hmmm...

Your car is a beast with all these mods, I bet. Maybe it could be down to asphalt/Concrete quality difference. I have no idea, but there is no way I can mash the throttle from stop and not go sideways.

MCT burnouts? Easy.
Hard launching? More difficult. It's down to timing on the brake boost. If you have your foot on the brake and floor the gas, you have under 2sec until the trans goes into a safety mode and you bog your launch. The trick is to get the tires real hot, stage, then as soon as the first light comes down floor the gas and release the brake a moment later. MCT cars can launch hard, you just have to practice.

On a few rare moments of my ownership of the car, i've hit the throttle and barely half and the response was like a normal auto and the thing tore off the line in heroic sideways fashion....i just can't replicate it though, hence why I thought it was the nature of the tranny.
The reason I ask is because i'd like to test out an airbox that i'm making, but i'd like to 1) attempt consistent launches and 2) get a credible time.

Could be revisions in the tcu but my 13 p31 is razor sharp on the throttle and takes off no issues.
I got a .176 reaction time and that was just slamming the gas without break boosting the car.
Can also spin the tires untill they catch fire.
My old e55 would not let me do a burnout though so I know what u mean.

I was actually amazed how well the traction control was doing its job as I was just smashing the throttle on all runs.

I meant like the time it all happenes is instant.my 60 fts were all in the low 2s that run was like 2.0xx but I'm on stock tires and no limited slip with horrible track prep.

2014 Mercedes C63 AMG 507 Edition
Did some 800m (1/2 mile) racing this weekend.
Here's a video of me in my 507 vs a Black Series. Both of us used launch control. He got a slightly better launch, which is to be expected, as it has wider tyres at the back. But I passed him again.

BLKROKT with MPSS tires do you feel you would cut better 60 ft times with new tires or worn ? I remember reading that you once wrote that you felt the traction got better with wear. Im about to replace my rear set of tires and im going to the drags on Friday. Im in OKC for the next 2 weeks and altitude here is 1200 ft vs 5300 of Albuquerque.
Did you run that 11.91 in your sig at ABQ? Impressive.

I forget to be honest. My MPSS never got near the end of their life until I ruined them on track one day. I think new'ish was better for drag racing. The trick that worked for me was to run the rear at 24psi (cold) and get them real hot with a big burnout.

I saw the video of your car on Instagram, against the F80 M3 and was in love with the way it sounded

This topic is very interesting. I had the MCT in my 14 C204 c63, the mct of my 16 c63w205 and the 7g in my current w204c63. All of them are great but very different in feel. The MCT in my 2014 c204 had a really nice feedback when you upshift and downshift but it overheated very easily and pumped out lots of oil, burnouts have been no probem. floor the throttle first and then get on the brake with your left foot.
The MCT in the 2016 w205 was very responsive but it in my personal opinion the transmission and the car was a littlebit toooo clinical.. Shifts have been solid and superfast but it lacks of emotion. I know thats tuff but its just my personal opinion.
The 7g is the one where you have the feeling it's indestroyable. I think the transmission is great and supersmooth compared to the other MCT's. A littlebit slow and you have to get used to it but once yu realized that you have to pull the trigger early enough than you are as quick as the MCT 1st Generation on upshifts. Downshifts is a different league compared to the MCT unfortunately because the 7G is superslow in Manualmode especially when you are under heavy breaking. But the tranny fits the characteristics of the car very good. It's heavy and a little bit slow but that's the way AMG's always have been in the past. I like it :P

i owed both personally thought the 7g was the better transmission. the mct was part of the reason why i sold my 2013 so quickly. just the hesitation in the mct was enough to make me grow to hate it.

@joe_quax damn something must of been really wrong with that mct to overheat easily and pump out oil, never heard of that before.
@jeffDL what do you mean by hesitation, from initial throttle or during shifts? I am curious but I know there are a few adjustments you can make to the MCT if you have a star diagnostic, for example make the shifts silky smooth again with a relearning of the clutch engagement.

I had a 09 7G C63 and found the tranny decent. Rev matching on downshifts was perfect, upshifts were quick but it lacked smoothness.
Now I currently have an MCT car and the tranny is much smoother, especially shifting at low speeds under load. Upshifts are slightly faster at redline. Downshifts aren't as good as the old tranny. I find the 3rd-2nd downshift imperfect. Doesn't rev match like the old one.
Maybe I need to do TCU reset??
