2013 C63 Little End Failure
as far as crank to conrod as you guys are talking about...crank journal to rod bearing contact could occur much before actual "knock" is present. bearings are soft material that is figuratively much more pliable than anything around. if you removed the oil pan you might see some bearing material mushroomed out. if not then you'd more than sure see metal dust particles dusted everywhere along the lower engine and oil pan.
until you venture off until racing canister style oil filters, most oil filters won't be able to capture all metal particles. i'm not sure how many microns our factory cartridge filter can filter down to. generally the damage you see will come in form of scoring of the camshaft friction points, and embedded debris across all bottom end bearings. although debris this small can cause engine failure, many times engines are able to continue to run through this without a hint of hesitation.
many screw on factory style filters have built in bypass valves, that when flow is thoroughly restricted will open up allowing unfiltered oil through their engines. the M156 engine uses a cartridge type filter, that of which i haven't spent enough time to analyze its design.
