Extended Warranty question
Hi all, I recently purchased a non-CPO 2013 C63. The car has had one owner (4 year / 50K miles) with all scheduled maintenace/work done at MB dealerships. I got the following extended warranty quotes from a Porsche dealer (that was selling this car). Warranty is offered through The Warranty Group, which has an awful lot of negative comments online... The platinum package with the common exclusions (brakes, tires, any liquids, etc) are priced as follows...
24m / 24k mi - $3700
30m / 30k mi - $4300
36m / 36k mi - $4700
What do you think of these prices? What can I haggle it down to? Any experiences with purchasing extended warranty through third party?

i bought a CPO C 63 in early 2013 and extended the CPO until i think spring 2016. i forget, i don't drive the car very much.
anyway, before extending the CPO i weighed a few options and my strong suggestion is to find out what warranty company your service center of choice uses and go that direction. i am not a huge fan of dealerships so if i had to do it all over again, i would have asked my independent who he recommends and used that company.
as far as negotiation, it may vary per warranty, but i'd find out who is whoring them out via forums and then call that person. that's what people do with extending their OE warranties since you can do it remotely.

$3700 is a ton for two years. The facelift cars are pretty reliable imo. Personally my car has been OOW for nearly two years and I have spend $0. Remember if you spend $4K on a warranty you need $4K in repairs just to break even. If you spend $2K you are still "ahead" $2k.
The above $3K/36m isn't as terrible.

Because of your very low mileage (16,000 on a 2014 507), I recommend that you opt for coverage through Fidelity Warranty (JM&A), as follows;
PLATINUM coverage’s $250 deductible
Additional years/miles:
3/36000 $3500
4/48000 $4500
5/60000 $5500
6/60000 $6000
7/70000 $6500
· JM&A is the highest rated national warranty company known for superior customer service and support
· Warranty can be cancelled or transferred at any time. If cancelled you will receive a pro-rated refund of the unused portion
· Zero % financing available on all plans with no credit approval necessary
· Warranty is accepted at over 6,000 repair facilities throughout the US, both MB dealers and independents.

I can attest to Fidelity being excellent. I just heard from my friend who bought my old E60 M5 and they paid to replace his SMG clutch last month lol. He was so glad I transferred the policy to him.

Just for reference I bought this exact policy (7 year/70k miles) for $4500 with slightly more miles on the clock. So for anyone in the market definitely shop around.

However, their policies are only sold through dealerships. So if you're out of warranty you can't get coverage unless you can convince a dealer to write a policy for you.

I have the fidelity warranty and my car is currently with my mechanic getting quite a bit of work performed under warranty. I paid 3500 and so far they have covered more than 3x the amount I paid. Very worth it IMO

Hi agp423! Congrats on the new car! Did you buy the C63 from Porsche of Arlington?
I took a look at the car over the weekend and couldn't convince myself to buy it, I do have a preference for the sedans.
Have fun!

Can you provide more details on what work you had done? I have same year car and am curious what you needed done that cost so much. Camshaft adjusters? Power steering?

Camshafts, valve adjusters, lifters, steering column, trans mounts, engine mounts, intake manifold gasket, and some other things. My car was a single owner 2012 car with about 40k miles. Had maintenance records and everything.

A car with 40K miles shouldn't need engine and trans mounts unless the guy was driving the **** out of it / tracking it. Probably didn't let it warm up first either. That sucks good that the warranty covered all of it.

My car had factory warranty which would run out in 4/17 when I bought the car from a lease company 9/16.
My dealer sold me a $4200 extended comprehensive warranty that kicked in at the end of the factory warranty (see Secure Drive Elite) They discounted it by $600.
In May 2017 I had no AC. Cost of repair? $2000 before deductible so it cost $200. Do the math. One more major failure at that cost and I have paid for it. Anything after that is bonus.
If you plan to keep your car and leave it more or less stock then think about it. You will probably waste your time and money if you plan to track the car. The insurance company will likely refuse to pay for repairs if they get wind you track the car.
