Wrapped grill fins gloss black

I've never been a huge fan of the chrome fins on either the PFL or FL grills, so I figured I'd take a chance and black out just those portions of my grill. I hadn't found anyone that had taken this approach previously, so I figured I'd share the result.

I took the entire grill out which, I found out later, is not necessary. You can remove those chrome pieces without removing the entire grill. All you have to do is press them away from the center star (you may have to bend the chrome surrounding the grill out an 1/8" or so). If I had left the grill attached, this project would have taken about an hour, tops.

I feel that this design feels updated, giving the look of a larger and more open grill, while not looking too 'murdered out'.

Nice!

Side note - I saw a regular c-class grill on a c63 on the forums here a while ago, looked pretty sick

I actually was on the freeway with a C300 in my same color today and looked at that grill. Too clunky in my opinion with the three fins, but to each their own.

Like this? I decided not to go for it, fitment issues aside I don't think it works as well as it does on the regular w204

Reminds me of the E-class grill.

no, the sport grill, without any painted slats. That one kevin guy on the forums did it, but I can't seem to find it! It looked really aggressive on a pfl c63.

Here they are! Look much better than the frail c63 grill. As said, to each their own!

What is that hook thing on the front? Looks catchy.

It's a tow hook. Has one on the rear too. They were on the car when I bought it but the previous owner didn't have the hole covers anymore. Been too lazy to go get new hole covers.

If anyone with a pre-facelift tenorite grey, I'll trade you for you hole covers.

Looks very unique. I remember seeing an M3 with a German flag flap tow hook on the front. Adds kind of a unique touch.

Thanks for the good idea, I had some gloss black wrap that has been lying in my drawer for about 2 years now that I got off eBay. I've been meaning to do something with my grill because there is too much chrome, especially as the car is iridium silver. So yesterday I put my novice wrapping to the test and I think it came out rather nice.

I was never able to find a gloss black grill for a facelift car. Is wrapping my only option?

Yep or paint it. You can also buy the 507 grill (black/chrome mix), it's a bit pricey though.
