C63s Track tyres
Hi,This is my first post on this site, I have just taken delivery of a new C63 s with ceramics which will get 4 to 5 track days a year on dry tracks. I have had a fair amount of track time in the past mainly in Lotus’s. Looking forward to lots of fun in this beast which is about twice as heavy and and has three times the power. I have a new spare set of standard AMG rims to mount some track dedicated tyres. It seems that I should go for either an R spec with a wear factor of about 80 ie trofeo R or Sportmaxx Race OR slightly less sticky pilot sport cup 2. Going to Phillip island in the early new year where it should be hot and fast. I am not looking to win competitions or break the car so don’t really want to be putting new sets of tyres on regularly, but do love the speed , I was around 1.57 at the Island in the lotus. Any advice on how this car will perform on the two types of tyre would be appreciated ,cheers.

For the record I’ve found that the PSC2’s are every bit as fast as softer compound tires. They have stiffer sidewalls and wear better to boot.

I have settled on the Bridgestone RE-71R. There are tires with better grip and higher price, but the blend of performance, longevity, and price according to my needs has lead me to the Bridgestones. Have fun!

I used Pirelli Trofeo R before and it is a very good tire, allowing a good and progressive feel of the car at the limits. But lifetime is very limited, they were slicks after 8 sessions of 15 minutes.
Now I use Yokohama AD08-R that offers at least 3 times more lifetime VS the Trofeo for about half the price. My timelap is just 3 seconds slower that with the Trofeo R on Shanghai F1 track (2:36 per lap). As trackday is not a race, it's enough for me.

Psc2s are a great tire for all around. If you get them through the tire rack, make sure you get the option to heat cycle. It helps long-term mileage and helps with track performance. In fact if you get any tire, you should always have them heat cycled. For $15 per tire it's soooo worth it. If you do end up getting the Trofeo Rs, make sure you get the "Porsche spec" and not the Mercedes or Camaro spec.

Thank you all for the very useful feedback. The Bridgestone’s are not available here but I had not considered the Ad08r before now! Now becomes a choice between them and the mps2, Has made me a little unsure which way to go.

If you plan few trackdays a year, you will have the opportunity to test them both. I wanted to try try the Cup2 but i found only "old" (manufactured 1 year ago) tires for 18" rims so I didn't buy them. I usually can get 3 months old Yokohama. Check the manufacturing date when you purchase tires, it makes a difference.

I wasn't aware that the Trofeo Rs came in different mfg-based specs. Do you have any good info about what the differences are?

No worries. The Porsche spec has a few advantages. All the Trofeo R tires are shaved but the Porsche ones are less shaved so you have more total tread. Which is nice. They have a stiffer sidewall and have a higher weight rating. They are a few bucks more but worth it.

Many thanks to all who have replied, ended up with pilot sport 2 tyres as all the others were hard to source. Track day not until the new year but will report back cheers.

Yeah pretty much useless knowledge. Tires are the most important improvement you can do to a car, so I figured to learn all about them as best I could. Plus tire rack has some good knowledgeable people that can help with tire specs.
