Carbon Fiber vs. Painted Trim

Hi folks,
I'm thinking of adding on a lip and trunk spoiler to my 14 coupe and am trying to decide between painted and carbon fiber. I do like the look of the carbon fiber and lots of the pics I've seen with it look great but wondering if that is already old hat? Would things look a little tidier / sleeker going painted? My car is obsidian black. Curious as to other peoples thoughts.

Having carbon fiber on a black car would make it stand out more than if it was just painted black. It would be a subtle change/touch but I like how carbon and black go together.

Thanks INS1GNIA,

I guess I could always get the CF painted if I tired of it whereas would have to replace or wrap if I just went painted PVC or fiberglass. I do like the CF look but I'm not one who wants to stand out....much.

Great pics myn8m3is8ndy, certainly sways me a little more, the contrast really shows - these are some of the better pics I've seen, especially close up.

I know it ultimately up to me but am wondering a little bit if CF is on its way out so hoping a few more will also chime in with their opinions.

If you want carbon fiber, I have an OEM P31 Coupe spoiler.

I totally understand about not wanting to stand out too much. The carbon fiber is subtle on darker cars enough that I have others who talk to me, always think it came factory that way, not aftermarket lol.

@JonM, thanks anyway but I'm going to go with something a little more aggressive looking.

@INS1GNIA, your factory look comment may be enough to decide on CF, thanks for that.

Appreciate all the comments and pictures, thanks folks.

I’m in the process of painting a front cf front splitter and rear cf rear spoiler in piano black to match the oem mirrors on my 14 507 coupe. I feel the weave is different then the interior cf weave and like the piano black look. DIY. Wet sanded the clearcoat with 800 grit then 1200. Finished with wet grey scuff pad. Will paint 1 coat primer, 3 coats basecoat, 3 coats clearcoat urethane. I’ll post picks when it’s done.

I like carbon fiber (cf) a lot, and have several pieces on my Vette.

The problem is, real cf is extremely expensive and if you ding it its impossible to repair.

On the other hand, cars with cf on them look absolutely smashing.
