ROW airbox install problem.
Hello everyone,
I keep having an issue with the left ROW airboxes (passenger side). I have reinstalled it at least 6 times, and always seems to have a little gap no matter how many times i force the airbox into the tube housing. Please see photo for reference. I have patiently reinstalled it 6 times over the past 3 weeks and every time it doesn't seem to fit in perfectly like the right side. Also when i tighten the housing, it eventually squeezes out the airbox and i can tighten on and on and on and doesnt seem to tighten up. I mean... is it just me getting unlucky? Any advice will help. Thanks.
Right side
Right row box. very tight and securely installed
Left side (passenger side)
As you can see. Doesnt seem properly secure.
Thanks!

did you try taking the y-pipe off the car, slipping the airboxes in, and then reinstalling the whole assembly as one piece? I think that is the best way to get everything to seal correctly. you should be able to have everything bolt together off the car and then everything just clicks into place to install on the top of the motor.

this thread will show you how to get the y-pipe and the bottom of the airboxes off. once they are off, bolt the top and bottom of the airboxes together and then just slip the airbox tubes in the y-pipe and clamp them down. then the whole assembly will be put together and the y-pipe clicks into place, and the bottoms of the airboxes click onto the top of the valve covers (I think that's where they attach, but I can't remember)

Best advice possible....has been the only way I reinstall mine for a pretty good while now

Does anyone know the negatives to driving without a fully secure airbox? Seems to drive fine. It looks secure although it’s not properly in. TIA

You’re fine. There’s no difference in your two photos above, I don’t see what the issue is. It doesn’t take much to seal there.

the way I do it is insert the lid into the Y pipe, loosen the clamp nice and loose, tilt it up at about 30 degrees and shove it in, the lip on the end of the airbox drops into a groove past the clamp, if it won't go in, you are not pushing hard enough or clamp is not loos enough or something is in the way, take the clamp right off if you have to.
If you are not in far enough when you tighten the clamp it will start to push the lid forward and clamp will slip off and just squish the tube as it has nothing to clamp to.
Like others have said take off the Y pipe if you keep having issues and see if you can get it all the way on and then snap the y pipe back on after attached.

Sounds like the worm-drive on the lefthand hose clamp is not tightening or failed. Try lifting up on the end of the clamp that went through the worm-drive or wiggle it while tightening the hose clamp worm-drive. You want the worm-drive to engage the notches on the clamp. Another option is to replace the hose clamp.

My bad, your clamp is at it should be. I'm not around my car right now and from your photo it looked different from what I remember because it looked like another channel in front rather than the raised blocky leading edge that it is..
