Ok guys I ran another bottle of bg44k fuel cleaner and just looked at 3 pistons.
they are almost brand new.this stuff is amazing!
I'll be changing my o2 sensors in a few weeks to have everything fresh also.
here are a few pics!!! Wow unreal results.

That’s ridiculous! I have 4 cans of the stuff here and will use it the next time I take my car out.
BTW when you said you tightened your IM bolts as much as you could by hand.... really? Was that after the initial torque sequence or what was your process? Like, gorilla tight? I’d really like to look at putting studs in there, but I’d be afraid to crack the IM screw bosses.

This time I used same bolts and no issues so far.

Gorilla tight with just a regular 3/8 hand ratchet I assume and not a big torque wrench or breaker bar....

Unreal! Great photos. Many people say a fuel system cleaner is unnecessary if one uses good gas but this is truly amazing to see and proof positive that there are additives that can clean combustion chambers.

Also, it's interesting to see the material erosion on the crown. I expected to see more generalized material loss as opposed to the deeper veining here. Ironically some carbon in the veins likely protects them from further erosion.

I decided to scope 2 cylinders again and they look like absolute ****.
I'm running another can or two of the bk cleaner. I think my 36-40 ltft are causing carbon build up.
My trims with my air setup are very high on idle and drop to 9-10 while driving and with OEM boxes I get 5-7 lifts while idling.
Here is a picture with less than 3k miles from the clean cylinders above.

Question: when you ran that bg44k stuff, did you just daily drive it until the tank was empty or is your car mostly a track car? And does that stuff change the octane rating much?
I'm fairly certain the previous owner never did this on my car so it's prolly not a bad idea at 35k... Just wondering if it's a good idea to throw a bottle in the tank before a track day or could I be putting the engine and/or other components at risk?

It does not affect octane and you cant tell the difference with the stuff in the tank.
Please do a before and after if you can

So..... to do it right, it should be pulled. Can I make the leap of faith and believe that the Weistec catch can will prevent or at least slow this down from happening again?

Few things that were changed and not sure what caused the carbon build up.
1 took out the oil catch can (had warranty work done)
2 ran silver colder plugs for about 3500 miles
3 took out stock air boxes and put on row/carbonio that caused long term fuel trims at idle to hit 38-45 on both banks.
4 ran a few tanks of e85 but that was literally a day before looking at the cylinders.
