Water gets in, but is diverted:
on the OEM 507/Black Series hood, there are 2 plastic diverter trays lying immediately under the hood vents that direct the water flow to run over the large fan shroud, and about 1" of the medial aspect of each air intake snorkel.
These diverter trays limit the hood vent opening to a mere ~1" x 3" on either side, severely restricting ability to vent heat.
They can be removed and re-installed with ease, however

Referencing photo below of OEM 507/Black Series Hood:
Yellow Oval = Under-hood insulation pad
Red Rectangle = Plastic diverter tray
Green Diamond = Open space displaying large fan shroud and medial aspect of air intake snorkel
Note how the plastic diverter tray blocks a good 2/3rds of the potential open space of the hood vent.

Agree with the above.
BUT...
I had carbon hood vents installed that have no trays. I can attest that they make a difference in temps. However, without those trays, water dumps directly on the electrical plugs for the throttle bodies and other important things. Normally the center engine cover with the MB star would shield some of that, but mine was removed because they won’t fit with the Renntech intake.
I was getting some some strange codes. First on both throttle body actuators which put the car in limp mode, then some misfires and purge valve codes threw my car in limp mode again on track a few weeks ago. I think it was all related to those plugs getting soaked, as it seems to happen only after it rains or I wash the car. I modified an OE engine cover to fit, and we’ll see if my problems stop.
So those trays do serve a purpose. That area really doesn’t like to get wet.

Jim, i wonder if you can epoxy or even weld some mounts under your hood for the OEM diverter trays, as they are held in place by 4 push in plastic clips per tray.
They certainly serve a purpose. And you can always un-clip them for track days.

There have been reports (here, and especially on AMG Private Lounge) of members whose OEM plastic hood vents have sunken in etc likely because the OEM tape used was not good enough.
I will be installing my own Mode Carbon vents shortly, and will be using this particular tape - 3M™ VHB™ Tape GPH-160GF that appears has the highest temp rating (Peak 450F, sustained 300F) and performance characteristics of their VHB series of tapes, in addition to it being 1.6mm thick - see attached PDF
