Knocking when car is shut off
I had a Mercedes mechanic listen to my engine and he confirms that it sounds very healthy. They test drove the far and all is well at my last service.
However, my car will periodically have a knock or noticeable thud when the car is shut off for a few minutes. Engine is not running at all and has been shut off for a few minutes already.
What could this knock or thud be? It's a single knock or thud at random times after the car has been shut off. Every 5 to 10 minutes. Feels like it's coming from the front area.

heat expansion/ contracting when cooling. I have it on one of my two cars in the summer, every so often I'll get a loud pop from somewhere in the front end after sitting and cooling down for a bit, but I have no issues

On the rare occasion I get to drive this car, I really give it hell. So the ticking and popping is a guaranteed thing after each session. Much more audible in the garage than outside.

Hey I'm totally familiar with ticking and light faint crackling when cars cooling down but these audible knocks seem pretty pronounced sitting inside the car. It can be felt. It's not a loud bang or anything but rather a single knock .. I know someone mentioned exhaust manifolds...care to elaborate?
Welcome other suggestions as to what the noise can be. Wish I was able to record it

The ticking is the manifold, the cracks are from stuff cooling. The pops may be from suspension, steering components or brakes settling.

This. I've never been able to pinpoint where exactly mine comes from but it is a loud enough pop that if you're in the car you can actually feel it. Seems like its somewhere in the front suspension but I haven't given it much thought since everything works as it should
