Obscure M156 failure point?

Oil Pressure Relief Piston O-Ring Failure

Ever hear of this one? https://oppositelock.kinja.com/in-wh...o-r-1651935795

Forgot how I stumbled across this, I think looking for info on the oil thermostat. Take it with a grain of salt due to the source, but the comments section is full of people with experience replacing this. And it looks like the job sucks.

Seems like AMG released an upgraded cover and o-ring for the M156, possibly in time for the early C63 models. Possibly not.

Some of the guys with older C63s or M156 might want to put this on their “to watch” list. I don’t see any mentions here on MBW.

Don't the m113k / e55's etc. have this problem? Somewhat rare

Nice find. Go to 4:50

I wonder if as they say, excessive heat on that o-ring (for cars that are tracked for example), could cause it to harden and fail? Don’t know if the AMG “fix” was just to the cover but to the o-ring as well? Think I need to do some digging...

If I remember right the cover changes to a 159 part # and I think some additional parts are needed to fit that cover. O-ring has no change. I ran a bead of silicone around cover for even more securement. Only done 2 repairs, must people decline repair. Slow seepage

Thanks. The article made it seem potentially catastrophic. Glad to know it’s not necessarily.

Do you know if AMG used the 159 part on the C63?

if you have the 156 # the part supersedes to the 159 # to use. Not sure if it’s pre facelift or facelift change. I’ve only seen early models m156. Just oil leak. I’ll see if I can come up with any info parts wise tomorrow

Thank you!
Please let us know what you find, and if MB EPC gives a date when they changed to updated cover, o-ring, or both?

A159-180-03-75 installed from 9/6/2010 upto the date 156 number was used. O-ring A155-185-01-80 was replace by 02-80 o-ring
