Painting Calipers Any Advice before?

I have 14’ 507 the clear coat is peeling off and the Calipers have started to get some rock ships so I want to restore them back to original.

Does anyone one know the paint code for the original red paint on them?

any advice on what to look for in a shop that’s doing the work?

thanks

they just need to be wetsanded and re-clearcoated, probably another decal applied. Had this problem with both my P31s I've had, but luckily on the most recent one I had all four calipers replaced under warranty.

I'm not sure exactly what causes it, but after i bought some PH neutral wheel cleaner, and stopped using the wheel cleaners at car washes, everything has been fine with the new calipers... Weird it doesn't happen to the silver ones.

There is a DIY on here if you search, person just re-clear coated and they looked great. For the color if you ned to color coat, I search around a lot and tried a few different things for touch up paint on a few stone chips and what I can tell you that I found on another forum is that Porsche Guards Red is an absolute perfect match for the red and I use it to touch up chips and it is identical. Porsche name is Indischrot code is 80K part number for the touch up is 911 095 932 21 80k

I had to have mine replaced a year ago on my 14 before the warranty ran out - my 13 with more miles and silver ones, no issue whatsoever.

how did you guys get them replaced under warranty? From the paint chipping? I tried before with local dealer they said not covered

If you have factory warranty then I'd be calling the regional or main corporate offices and just go above him. It's a known issue with this paint on P30/31/507 calipers.

I'd think it would still be covered. Definitely worth pushing tho.

Mine was covered in the initial 4 year/50k right at the end, I bought the car about a month before the warranty was up and took it in and complained about the clearcoat falling off and they just said ok, we will order replacements no question, mine were basically completely flat red, clearcoat came off in sheets literally all of it on all 4.

It seems it is a very common well known flaw that only happens with the red calipers, so even out of warranty I would expect some goodwill and if the dealer gets you know where, I would certainly call corporate and talk to them and point out all the instances you can find online of it happening to the red calipers.

Here is another thread from someone on here that re-cleared https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...per-paint.html

Turned out well if you can't get Merc to do anything.
