2009 c63 or 2012 c63
New on the forum, been reading a lot on here and I understand that the 08-10 and some 11s I guess c63 has the head bolt issues. Now I’ve got my eyes on two c63s one is an 09 in white with 90k miles and is 18500 and there is a 2012 with the 80k miles for 28000 in Red. Both dealerships offer extended warranties to cover the head bolts for the 09 and they also offer warranty for the 12. My question is I’m having a hard time justify almost a 10k increase in price for the 12 and even without the warranty for the 09 the head bolts job will go for 4800 here in central Florida at Mercedes dealership which still puts me ahead of the game. Also another note is I like the 09 look better than the facelift look on the 2012. I’m just unsure about which one to pull the trigger on and if the extra 10k for the 12 is justifiable. Any thoughts is appreciated

I'd get a 2012.
Early m156 had issues with cam lobes being worn down because they were made of iron.
Unless you have proof they were checked/replaced I'd get the 2012 just to be safe.
Headbolts aren't an issue for 2010+ models I believe.
I would have a checkup on the lobes either way before buying.

There's a ton of threads here about the pros/cons of each gen car. I'm a PFL guy because that's what I found and liked and hadn't done much research on. However I got lucky and found documentation that my bolts and buckets had been done under warranty. Warning: Carfax is BS and probably won't tell you that this kind of job was done. You'd need to do what I did and retrace every dealership that serviced the car and inquire about warranty work to see if it's done. Alternatively, and unlikely, see if someone will let you or the shop pull a valve cover to look with eyeballs. $28K for a 80,000 mile 2012 car is very high in my opinion. You should be able to find lower mileage examples for similar or less money.
Also, there are other things like revised transmissions, UI, and plain ol' aesthetics to consider. I love my PFL. It just works for me, fits like a glove, has everything I want and nothing I don't, well, except maybe for that stupid rear window automatic sunshade, which didn't work anyways so was unceremoniously discarded. CHeers and welcome and happy shopping.

Gotcha I checked the carfax and it is good to get dealer info that’s about it lol and what I did was call the dealers that maintained the cars by providing the Vin. I love the pfl too thanks for the help!

I hope I don’t catch heat for this lol but I Bought a 2014 CLS 550 instead of either c63. I drove the CLS because my wife wanted me to try something newer and the warranty is top notch so I test drove it and it doesn’t give you that amg feel but wow, was very impressed with the power and the interior was stunning imo I guess I’ll have to wait until next year for the amg. Thanks for all the input on the cars. Now I have to go search the cls threads smh after I’ve been researching these c63s for almost a year, cheers
