with only 1 coating and the stainless steel support structure its already very rigid plastic. i plan to add on 3-4 more layers and shape. will be stronger than the original part. i understand the hesitation...i had hesitation as well. it took me this long to jump on the project because of that, but then i learned about their plastic product. after through research and speaking to JBWELD over the phone it gave me complete confidence.
with the new discount offered by VRP...they are a solid option at that price point. highly recommended.
finally got off my ***...now to figure out what to do about the steel insert missing a section of metal which could allow some air to bypass...the proper thing to do would be to have someone TIG weld some sheet steel in place. I assume those steel sleeves from the ROW boxes are not available separately? even with replacement horns, you'll run into this issue or an issue with the metal needing to be shaved back as they'll hamper airflow. really depends on how you flip and insert the steel sleeves.
maybe I'll seal up the air horns with RTV Gasket and wipe off the excess so it's pretty much air tight with no chance of gasket material sucking the whole way though? I'll have to take a look tomorrow and see what we're working with. I'll also seal up behind the steel sleeve if that's the case if I proceed.
I am pretty happy with how it turned out. 9/10 of what I envisioned...only subtracted a point because there were some spots where I got lazy and buzzed off a little bit too much material. oh well...here it goes.
are ROW air boxes better...yes...yes they are...but I wanted to try making replacement air horns and was able to so there's that.
