P2158 Vehicle Speed Sensor "B" ... but which is B?
Morning all,
So I have been having trouble with my car the past two weeks and I was thinking it was the ABS/ESP control module but I had a weird thing where I had no Speedometer which I didn't see too many post on. So I pulled my codes and again yesterday and found:
P2158 Vehicle Speed Sensor "B"
So I'm hoping thats it ONLY issue... but now I'm curious, which speed sensor is B? Is it a clockwise thing where Drivers front is "A" so passenger front is "B"?
Any input is greatly appreciated! I swear I searched to forums, but I may just been slow and missed it.

Since it seems no one knows, maybe just unplug one and go for a drive then scan the codes and see if you get a new one for a different sensor or no additional codes which should help narrow it.

I had all this worked out when trouble shooting my own issues but I threw out all my web printouts/notes/code scan images the other day.
From memory I had speed sensor B which on my RHD C63 was the front left.
Buy a front sensor and swap to the other side if the error remains. Not hard work - just a nuisance having to pop out the inner guard liner (but a good opportunity to scrub the plastic clean).

I would assume the vehicle speed sensor is in the valve body.

From my google searching it appears to be behind the rotors. Makes sense since the sensors are sold as "front left" "front right" "rear left" & "rear right".
But I still wanna look into what you posted to make sure I'm not unplugging an unnecessary wire. Thanks Jasonoff!

Vehicle speed is different than the wheel speed sensors. The front wheel senors will be L6/1 (Left front axle rpm sensor) and L6/2 (Right front axle rpm sensor).
The wheel speed sensors are used for ESP, ABS and tire pressure monitor if you don't have the pressure sensors.

So i had my transmission replaced about 2-3 years ago... and from googling it looks like its mounted in my transmission?
"Typically, the VSS is an electromagnetic sensor that uses a rotating reluctor ring to complete an input circuit to the PCM. The VSS is mounted in the transmission housing at such a point as to allow the reluctor ring to pass by it"
Is this true for our vehicle? Cause I need to see if the warranty is still good on the transmission then...

Finally got a break from work and got around to doing this. Super simple to replace so I did the front passenger side... Fault code remained. Alright, removed and replaced it with the original and went to the drivers side and replaced it with the new one. Fault code remained.
Does the car have to sit with the new sensor for a bit to clear itself or is the "Vehicle Speed Sensor B" not in the front. I'm not super knowledgeable when it comes to this stuff so I'm desperate for some advice. Thanks!

B stands for get a BETTER scan tool. Generic junk doesn't tell you much in mercedes land. Give me the MB fault and their description and I can help you.
