C63 AMG Oil Cooler solution! Reasonable 44O option!
Take advantage of this while you are still in the EU!
I would be happy to hear more reports from the people who have already mounted and tested the cooler

Get in before the custom duties apply.
The bigger oil cooler is definitely better in keeping oil temp down, especially for facelift cars, even more so for supercharged C63s.

Did a 300 klm day trip in 36C heat south of Sydney with a mix of stop/start traffic and plenty of highway.
The average is usually around 105C and the highest I saw was 109C after a 80-90kph 400m elevation climb in 5th gear coming home.
As soon as we started descending the other side of the mountain temps quickly came back to 105C, even 104 for a brief period before I put the boot back in.
This is with the auxiliary fan removed and Sven's cooler does it all as described.
Great work and worth the money.

The Best of Mercedes & AMG

It's summer here in Oz and I've had a few spirited highway drives with the outside road temp showing 37-39degC and highest oil temp I saw was 107degC .
I used to see 112degC quite regularly in normal driving before fitting the cooler.
Sven is great to deal with.

it's great that this option is available though.

What trans and diff cooling mods have you done?
What trans and diff cooling mods have you done?
I have a diff cover that was available on the euro and Australian models with cooling fins and the rectifier (heat sink) that bolts on to it and hangs down in the airflow under the car. Its passive cooling but i don't do hours of uninterrupted track driving so active diff cooling with an external pump seemed like overkill. Scheduled to be installed next week with a limited slip diff.
I have the weistec high capacity trans pan ordered. They have been out of them for months and were putting people on a waiting list but a new batch is supposed to ready to ship by mid Jan. and I have already paid for mine so it will ship asap.

I know 112C isn't high but since fitting the bigger cooler and removing the auxiliary fan my temps have never gone above 107C even sitting still in peak hour traffic.
I will see how my oil temps are at the track in the hot summer and reconsider then.

There's no way it only reached 118°C without additional cooling mods. You may have a faulty sensor.
Weather was mid 70s F, no cooling mods. 1 warmup session and 3 hard run sessions of 20 minutes each with about 1.5hrs between sessions, Palm Beach International Raceway road course. Car has low miles, faulty sensor is doubtful as it acts as it should during normal driving and warm up etc.
I love how there must be something wrong with my car bc it acts differently than yours.
Track layout and speeds, cool down between sessions, Tunes, Pre or post FL, exhaust coating or other things that could affect undrrhood temps could all have an effect.

This cooler solution Sven created is legit! If you want plug and play, don't hesitate on it.
For example, here is my dedicated track car that I have basically spent a full season on for cooling.
That's a dual pass oil cooler pretty much 2x the size of OE with a shroud forcing air into it making it a priority. The fan is removed from the passenger arch oil cooler. There's a massive hole cut into the bumper beam and cover to allow way more air into the cooling array and my grill is pretty much fully gutted. Lastly, those are 2 fairly large hood vents basically over the headers.
Previously, I would hit mid 130°C after a few hard laps and have to do cool down laps. Now, with all these changes, my oil temps max at the mid 120°C range.

From what I can tell so far the oil coolers do great when they see high airflow from higher speeds, as I can see the oil temp drop some above 130mph while water temp stays about the same.
Maybe you have the 44O kit or some other modification. It's almost impossible not to get the car into limp mode when you're on a track. Only because of the complaints of the C63 owners and the AMG test drivers, the 44O kit was developed.
If there had been no problems, this kit would not have been sold.
After several years of experience with the car, there is no one I know who does not have problems with their oil temperature on the race track.
Therefore, I assume that you may have a modification like the 44O kit. When you see the original oil cooler, it's simply no wonder at all why a C63 overheats so quickly. That can't work on a race track.
You are absolutely right. If you have no problems, it makes no sense to buy an oil cooler. For normal everyday use at normal temperatures, the original cooler is okay.
I guess a 440 kit is possible since I bought the car used with only five thousand miles on it, but it seems unlikely since the car had zero other modifications. Car is 2015 507.
I will say that I have never noticed the noisy oil cooler fan sound that I hear others complain about in the 440 cooler threads on this forum, so I guess its possible the car was upgraded. But I also thought perhaps the reason the temp seemed stable in the mid 240s was because of the fan. As I thought I read on this forum that the fan kicked on around 245°F. I haven't looked to see if fan was removed, what would be the other obvious visual clues if a 440 kit was on it? I will inspect further next week when it is on a lift for the lsd install.
Are you sure you 'track' guys aren't just running longer than 20min sessions?
As for not driving very hard, the level of condescending there i won't even address, I have SCCA hillclimb and time trial licences, so while I am new to this car I am not a track newbie.
I have no plans to endurance race the car but may do a rear seat delete and roll bar and harnesses to get legal for hillclimbs and scca time trials, both of which are short session racing. Especially hillclimbs which only last a couple to few minutes in general, unless you are talking about Pikes which i am not.

Nobody is questioning your driving ability either. I asked if you were pushing the car as not to assume since the temps you stated suggest otherwise, that's all.
BLKROKT posted some pics of the 44O kit in this thread but if you use the google machine there's lots of pics of what it looks like installed.
Sometimes less, sometimes more. It reaches thermal max pretty quick and just levels out so a 40min session wouldn't change how hot the oil gets.
As for my anomaly, I hear what you are saying regarding your experience and others and I read the 440 colling kit thread this morning with all the complaints, but for now the anomaly is one I am happy to have. We shall see what happens when the weather gets hotter here.

Jasonoff. BTW the weistec trans pans are due back from powdercoating today, Jan 8, and then will take about a week to machine the fins, etc so they are due to start shipping the new batch around the 15th. I was able to call and pay for mine already to ensure getting one of the first of the batch so as not to miss out. I dont know how big the batch is but I know there was a waiting list for months, so....
