HVAC class action
Anybody here got a letter in the mail regarding the MB HVAC class action? I am planning to take mine in to get it fixed, but it seems like only 75% of the cost will be covered. Curious to hear yall's stories.

I got it also and have not had an issues, but suspect like Jasonoff said it will happen, BMW's are the same, my son's 2003 gets stinky and needs a clean once every few years.

I received the mailing re: recall issue for the airbag ... when i have a chance ill stop in and have it taken care of
While it's there they can address the HVAC issue.. Every once in a while ill have a weird smell when you take it off the recirculate air.

Do you think I can avoid it by not running the AC? I literally never use it. Even when it's 98 and humid I drop the windows because I prefer to hear the growl of the V-8.
Just curious if that would affect the growth of funk in the deep recesses of the system.

I feel like this would only happen if you let your car sit for days and days after running the AC on a very warm and humid day. I live in Central Georgia (read Vietnam-like summer climate and I haven't had this issue with any Benz I've had. But they all never sat for more than a couple days at a time.

Airbag is fully covered by a recall but the parts are hard to come by. I have two affected vehicles and both show "pending' on the MB website. Called my dealer and he said they would rattle some cages next time I bring them in for service so they have the parts.
I can't seem to find any rhyme or reason behind what vehicles are getting parts and in what order...
Tons of threads on the Takata airbag situation if you do a search.

I turn off the AC a few minutes before I arrive to my end destination, this helps dry the evaporator preventing mold growth. I've been doing this since the W124 days and it cut down the stink a lot.

Mold in the HVAC system. I saw it because a bunch of people on Faceberg were talking about it. I've never had the smell in any of my cars. Passengers tell me my car still smells like leather at 70k miles

A settlement was reached in a class-action lawsuit against Mercedes-Benz that claimed the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning units in many of the brand’s cars were moldy.
The suit against Mercedes and parent company, Daimler AG, alleged the HVAC systems in several 2001-to-2018 vehicles, including Mercedes E-Class and Maybach models, caused “highly unpleasant” odors that “cause respiratory problems and aggravate allergies.”
The settlement will compensate drivers who have already paid for repairs and provide maintenance to impacted drivers moving forward, per court documents released Friday.
Plaintiffs in the suit argued Mercedes knew or should have known about the mildew issue but failed to reimburse customers for repair costs or provide an in-warranty fix.
The suit also alleged the luxury carmaker knew about the problem as early as 2008 when customers initiated an arbitration proceeding about the issue, in which Mercedes lost. As well, the company received several complaints from concerned drivers over that span.
“Mercedes won’t fix the musty smell from HVAC,” one customer wrote on Reddit. “On the 8th month of ownership, I started smelling a musty moldy smell through the AC vents. This gets aggravated and can be prominently smelled during the first 30 seconds of start."
Neither Mercedes or Daimler immediately responded to a request for comment from FOX Business, but Daimler filed a motion to dismiss a mold suit earlier this year, arguing the plaintiffs wrongly linked the two companies when they are separate entities.
That motion was dismissed by U.S. District Judge Amy Totenberg.
Daimler’s stock as dropped more than 4 percent in the past month.

The Mercedes models included in the settlement are Mercedes-Benz 2008-19 C-Class, 2010-15 GLK-Class, 2012-17 CLS-Class, 2010-19 E-Class, 2015-19 GLA-Class, 2013-16 GL-Class, 2016-19 GLE-Class, 2017-19 GLS-Class, 2012-15 M-Class, and 2016-19 GLC-Class.

What was the break down of the $380 and what did they do exactly? I have a 2012 that has the issue and I'm not sure if I want to get it done at the dealer or an indy shop.

I will be doing the flush myself (20$ filter and 20$ evap cleaner) as I would only receive 70% compensation for a ~$344 bill. I was really hoping they were going to replace some parts in the HVAC system

Thanks for the detail! After looking up the part numbers this looks like the standard cabin filter replacement and evap cleaner.
