2012 C63

I’m a 17 year old kid that just got a 2012 C63 and upgraded from a C250 and it definitely has a modified exhaust. After looking under the car it looks like it has a muffler delete but the resonators and secondary cats are still there. A buddy of mine who had a C63 said that the first mods to do were MBH headers and a Eurocharged tune. If anybody would take a different route or has any other mods they would or have done. Lmk.

Don't forget ROW airboxes and AFE Pro-Dry filters (if that hasn't been done yet).

p.s. When I was 17 I drove a Renault Le Car... Hug your parents and don't kill yourself.

17? Your blessed. Drive safe. This car will get into some trouble if driven recklessly. Congrats on the upgrade.

Mod #1 is go get some driving instruction on a track. Seriously, forget about mods at 17. If you make it to 19 then absolutely go for it because you successfully learned how to drive.

Same. Get some driver's training and try keeping out of trouble for a couple of years.

Congrats on the car, having a C63 at 17 must be a dream. As others have said, make sure you learn the car first and give it respect because it can bite you badly. I wish you many safe and enjoyable miles ahead

Also, please make sure you always have good quality tires on the car, it makes a world of difference

We agree...

He is a good kid and he earned his dream car. He has had the car for 6 months now and has had time to gradually get used to the power. He will be doing several trackdays this winter to improve his driving skill and control.
That said, he is also 17 and wants to stand out (like all of us did when we were his age). We love modding things for both performance and looks. We have already done wheels and tires and blacked out most of the car. He got a job so he can start doing performance upgrades. I told him to post on this forum to get some ideas about what people think are the best performance mods for the money and what order they "should" be done in. I assume you guys have some opinions? lol

This.
At 17 you just want to go fast. A car like the 63 will kill you.
You need to learn how to drive properly, and the best place to do that is on a track, with an experienced instructor.

Ok. Some background...I am his father and understand your responses. Lucky for him I like to drive "fast" on the track and I have had probably a hundred trackdays in my life (mostly on bikes). He has spent many a day in the pits and around the racers. He has even had a few ride-alongs on the track and some limited time in carts. He will be getting on the track very soon. We understand the importance of driving skill improvement. I will be funding his track time (except tires). Cool? We good?

Is there any reason he can't ALSO work on improving his car at the same time? We were hoping to get some positive feedback based on the experience of the senior members of this forum about what modifications they would recommend.

We get it. He is 17 which means he is dumb as a bag of hammers. Now, what are the best performance mods for a 2012 C63?

I think you got them all already:

Headers, EuroTune, ROW airboxes with AFE dry pro filters...

after that, suspension.

after that Weistec supercharger (he will need another job for that one).

these cars don’t need much. 550+ RWHP is easily attainable safely and inexpensively.

if he is after looks, then there is always a wide body kit... followed by some sick monster meats :-)

edit: and a LSD if not equipped already.

Thanks. I don't want to start a holy war but what are the best/preferred headers? Budget and premium options if they exist

MBH seem to be pretty popular here.

Last I heard VRP had a very similar (some say copied) version for something crazy like $700 shipped. Now they are $1,500: https://www.vrpspeed.com/product/m15...gtube-headers/

There was a good thread last fall that I thought was a good reliable track build. I’ll see if I can find it and add the link here.

found it: https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...100-200-a.html

American Racing Headers (ARH) makes some of the finest, best performing headers for our platform (and their bundled headers kit is more comprehensive than others)
ARH post-purchase service may be even better

If car will see lots of track time, go with Swaintech "White Lightning" ceramic coating on headers to reduce temps

First, congratulations on your C63 ownership.

Don't need to say anything as I see the forum community has already said pretty much said everything.

If you look at my history, I asked the community the same question very recently and the most popular answers seemed to be either MBH or ARH.

I have talked to both MBH and ARH and really, it's just a matter of how you click with the person you're talking to on the phone. I chose MBH even though ARH HQ is located in my state and I could literally drive there and pick it up.

Can't go wrong with either, you just have to be patient as when I reached out to both of them, they only made them on order. Takes about 2-3 weeks to craft.

Mike from MBH occasionally have an extra sitting around.

Drive safe and congratulations.

Honestly, the last thing anyone needs is a 17yo kid driving around in a headers C63. Including YOU Dad.

Headers are just ungodly loud and will draw a ton of unnecessary attention from neighbors, cops and people looking to goad your son into doing something noisy and stupid. And at 17, it’s almost inevitable that none of those interactions will end well.

Wheels, tires, LSD, a tune and secondary cat delete should be more than enough.

That's an exceptionally valid point. My own idiot son has obnoxiously loud exhaust on his M4 and he gets pulled over by the po-po at their pleasure... and he gets ticketed. And he gets goaded into stoplight racing by every guido out there. As a fellow dad (of a son who is long on ***** and short on brains), I have to agree 100% with BLKROKT.

If he gets bored with mods or is looking for something else, get him into detailing. That will take up a good amount of time and will help keep the appreciation of the car. A great skill that keeps giving and a fantastic way to relax.

I appreciate your opinion but the phrase "unnecessary attention" is subjective. One of the main reasons he bought this particular car is because it is stupid loud already (and has "shouty" red leather seats). He won't be satisfied until the neighbors dog dies when he starts it up in the morning.

We discuss this on the regular. He has his freedoms as long as he behaves appropriately. The public arena is for "show", the track is for speed.

So first...we are registering for his first trackday as a driver. We have to wait until his baseball season is over so it will be one of the following:
8/22. August Evening @ Motorsport Ranch Cresson or 9/5. September Sundown @ Motorsport Ranch Cresson
He is pretty excited. Taking his first hit off the track pipe

So between now and then we are headed to Eurocharged Austin next week to get ROW AIrbox/Filters and tune.

This leaves tires. We already swapped the wheels with some Avant Garde 19" but those are primarily cosmetic. We have the OE AMG 18".
What tires do you guys recommend? These will be trackday only tires
