Problem, car won’t turn on ignition

The key unlocks the car but nothing happens when I push the button or trying with the key. Got mad and punched the steering wheel and then it started up, turned it off and started it up a couple of times then the problem returned. May it be a problem with the steeringwheel locking?

Try changing out the battery on the key fob. I know it sounds stupid but that does cause an issue.

Might be this. It's common for the W204

Your lucky the steering wheel did not punch back at you. The airbags can be unpredictable at times; it packs a much stronger blow. Don’t disrespect your car like that and be thankful for owning something most people dream of.

I believe your issue is electrical related if it’s not cranking. I would start w/ the battery as previously stated.

Key fob battery first, then look at following, very common problem.

Replaced my ESL & EIS together $400 at an indy in Australia.
Can cost up to AU$2000 at Stealerships

New batteries did not solve it.

will try to get the car started one more time by messing with the steering wheel or give the ESL a tickle...

If I manage to get the car running and steering unlocked, I’ll take the ESL out the easiest way and replace the motor. Or should I get a ESL emulator?

any tips?

When car is running, leave the key in and then remove battery cable leaving the steering unlocked is the main thing?

Your esl motor is going bad, You should get the motor inside the esl replaced ASAP ($24 for the kit) while it’s still starting intermittently. If it’s fails 100% you will have to remove steering column completely and cut bolt on esl to get it out. That’s a huge pain and $ if you have to pay a shop,

if you going to do the work yourself, place key in ignition and if you hear the steering unlock disconnect battery. This will allow you to lower steering column and remove esl and open up to replace motor. Most recommend removing steering wheel but I replaced mine by pulling four bolts for steering column and wiggled esl out. Search for esl replacement and you will get a better idea what needs to be done. Honestly the repair is fairly easy assuming you have the esl unlocked before complete failure.
