Error code help

Hi All,

My engine light came on after a cold start, I check the error codes and the following showed up. I'd appreciate any help on where to being troubleshooting.

1. Continuous camshaft adjustment (right): Incorrect position of the intake camshaft (P0010)
2. B6/5 (Right intake camshaft hall sensor): The time of the signal value change is implausible (P0341)

My car:
-2014 C63 507 edition
-21k miles
-Just did a secondary cat delete 2 days prior to these codes (assuming its not related at all)
-Driving the car doesn't feel any different since the codes appeared.

Thanks!

it tells you right there. i would start with replacing your right intake camshaft hall sensor. that is most likely the reason why your camshaft is not sure what position to be in. or maybe the connector or wiring is damaged. i'd inspect.

That makes sense, I hope its only that. I am worried about more severe problems at such low mileage.

if you are comfortable doing so, i would reset the codes and drive the car. if the codes do not return then you should be fine. the Bosch Motronic 9.7 is a very intelligent computer and will notify you instantly if there is a severe issue.

About 6 months ago I had a piston misfire code on one of the cylinders, the check engine light turned off on the next cold start. I didn't think much of it. Could this be related to a faulty camshaft hall sensor aswell?

yes and no...depending on the mileage on your car/engine could be your ignition coils.

Hi,buddy. I just bought a used 2014 c63 507 last Friday. And this morning when I start the car the engine light went on. The car still drives very smooth with the engine light on. My car has similar mileage as your car at 30k km. Did you have your problem fix? Im going to bring to a shop and find out whats wrong with my car tomorrow and I'll share the information with you.
Wish you the best for you and the lovely 507.
And no tune on the car. Everything stock

I did what hachiroku suggested and just cleared the codes and kept driving the car. The light never came back on yet. If I get the same problem again, I'm going to try changing out the camshaft position sensor first.

I had the same first code, but on the right. I'd probably wait until someone with more knowledge chimes in. I'm still a noob at troubleshooting.

Anyone know the work it would take to replace the right intake camshaft sensor? I'm hoping it would not require the removal of other parts. I cant find any material online for the location of this sensor. Any info would be great!

Its the cylinder looking thingys haha

Not too bad to do at all.

Top ones are your intake and lower mounted ones are your exhaust.

Thanks for the pic, I found the part I need on FCPeuro, but it says its not compatible with a 2014 C63 AMG. Any idea why? I searched for the same part number.

Looks right. Be aware that the intake and exhaust sensors are different.

I used this guide when I replaced mine a few months ago. https://mbworld.org/forums/c63-amg-w...or-faulty.html

Both of these sensors have part number 0009050143 (right intake camshaft position) but they look different...any ideas which one would be correct?

Before you spend any money, swap left to right clear the codes and see if the code comes back and switches sides, if the code switches sides it is the sensor, if the code says on the same side it is the adjuster itself or the solonoid.

Also look for oil in the plugs, I have seen some leak and soak down the wiring harness and get into the plugs and can throw a code also.

So the left and right intake sensors are the exact same? I thought they were different due to the different part numbers.

Ah sorry, mixing you up with the other guy that is having exhaust cam error, exhausts are the same, intakes are different, so you are correct for intake you will need to buy one - they are not terribly priced at least. As to your question of which one to buy I would do the OEM one, bosch one looks wrong from the picture but may just be a generic picture I suspect.

Don't know about the numbers but the top pic is an exhaust sensor and both exhaust sensors are the same.
The inlet sensor (bottom pic) is different L&R.

sensors are cheap...camshaft adjusters are expensive. if you think its the sensors $40 is a lot cheaper than 800-1500 for one adjuster with install. camshaft adjusters are a wear item, so given high mileage, you will eventually need to change this item out. generally when an adjuster is going out, you'll have a timing over advanced error message. that is the common message where the adjuster is giving more timing than requested due to internal wear.

continuous camshaft adjustment...could be sensor, could be adjuster, i'd lean more towards sensor or something to do with the electrical connector.

I'm hoping its not adjuster issues at 21k miles

So I brought it to the dealership today to get their opinion. They "diagnosed" the problem without even taking the valve cover off. They quoted me a repair for 4 new adjusters and 4 new camshafts at $14,000 CAD without labor.

What they said:
-Scanned vehicle system, found fault sensor intake camshaft position cylinder bank 1 has malfunction.
-The position of the camshaft deviates from the specified value
-ran test plan for fault, called up actual values of engine camshaft position. found the right cylinder bank would not deviate from 28 degrees.
-attempted to run camshaft adaption procedure, unable to complete as right cylinder bank camshaft adjuster is not advancing or retarding the camshaft.suspect camshaft adjuster spring is locked and unable to adjust timing.

Can they really come to these conclusions without even physically inspecting? I will have to inspect myself, starting with the camshafts.

Could the problem still just be the sensor? If one adjuster is bad, do all need to be replaced like this dealership is saying?
