Aftermarket M156 Camshaft Adjuster Plate

Quiet as a mouse.... with a finely timed and rebuilt M156 top end. New repair camshaft adjuster plates used 😎.

Tough crowd. I was more after the fact that the aftermarket plates option is not a $2500 (parts alone repair) from the dealer. Nice to have an aftermarket option.

I can guarantee that start up noise won’t happen for awhile considering what went into the new repair plates. And if you’re putting anything aftermarket in these cars it better work first (and they better deliver 2nd )

When they're completely ƒucked. They get progressively noisy as they wear..

Sounds good, I'm about to replace all my lifters and am eager to see just how much play my adjusters have. I would rather replace the adjuster plates than whole adjuster. After seeing and debating I bought timing tool and plan to do it all myself.

I keep seeing mentions of these repaired plates, nice to see someone put them in motion.

I am in the process of purchasing an upgraded replacement kit from a member on here who makes them. My adjuster is fine(doesn't make any noise) but im going to install it as a precaution

Been following your updates, thank you for looking into this

More info and specs regarding the plates please - hardness compared to OEM, replacement positions (intake/exhaust), availability, price, etc?
Pin remains the same OEM, i take it?

Alloy Properties

Certifications: ASTM A29/A322, RC36 (~25% - 30% improvement over OEM); BHN 290+; CVN (foot lbs min aim) 20+ @ 50 F; Tensile Strength (min) 130,000+ psi, Yield Strength (min) 125,000+ psi, ~ ≤ 156 grams.

Through hardened 4140 alloy variant. Medium carbon alloy steel heat treated. Planed and Paralleled surfaces to 8 µ”.

Pin is RC62, the same as stock. Individually quality checked for measurements (tedious AF). There’s only a 10 thou clearance on the diameter so it’s pretty precision fit and each single pin needed to be tested against the pin bores of two stock adj. gears.

This is controversial here but Im going to be putting a slight radius on the pin edge so that it doesn’t catch as hard as the OEM pin does against the plate. That was also tedious AF. With the pin rounded off slightly it won’t act as a dull knife against the plate and instead glide against it. If anyone is keen enough to go with that “redesign”, I can make it happen. Otherwise I have normal chamfered ones just like stock. The pins weigh the same as stock.

Made in Canada. Head to Tunerworks in Calgary, AB to ask about the repair. Anyone local to Airdrie, AB, I can repair the adjusters same day (If you bring Adjusters to me) for a small labour fee. If you are in Toronto, ON, please go to XF Motorsports for the repair. I will have pins if needed. In NYC ask EVOLV Auto for the kit. I’m 63everything on instagram.

Minor symptoms are start up rattle that goes away. Poor idle, acceleration hesitation, any ECU codes regarding timing. Adverse effects are head and engine block damage from improper timing adjustments of the adjuster.

And here’s a cold start

Sorry to necro this thread, Its very informative.

You with 63 Motorsports by chance? Do they still offer repairs on this if I were to come down to Airdrie?

Thanks
