After car inspection brakes squeal

Anyone have an idea why the brakes on my C63 would start squealing as I come to a slow stop after I got my car back from an out of province inspection shop? They did take the brakes apart and inspect for wear etc so maybe they put them back together with some grease on rotors or maybe set up pads too tight?
Anyone else have this problem and know a fix for it? The shop says that they didn't do anything to cause it and won't do anything for me which is really irrating and poor service.
Thanks for any suggestions you can give.

Take this with a large grain of salt - I'm stateside so have no idea what the inspection process is like in Alberta.
I can't think of any reason for a shop to take the brakes apart to inspect them. Pulling the wheels to be able to look at pads and rotors makes sense, but nothing more. Are you sure you really understand what they did?

I actually saw the mechanic take the brake calipers off the discs and put them back together. The inspection process is crazy here in Alberta, - takes 2 hours.

I'm checking to see if there is any treatment to apply to the discs or pads to stop the squealing.

You could try sanding the pad surfaces with some light grade sandpaper or emery paper

That is a bit crazy since it is very easy to inspect without removing the caliper and the pads can be removed if needed to inspect without removing the caliper also.

FYI - the bolts that hold the calipers to the car are single use according to Mercedes WIS (both front and rear), so if they removed the calipers, they need to replace the bolts when re-attaching to the car or they are potentially creating a safety issue.

Where did you go for the inspection because you dont need to take the calipers apart to check the required parts for the inspection. You don’t even need to take the wheels off for most cars although it can make it a bit easier

OMG, I'm going to pass this on to the shop because they are a big chain automotive store, - Canadian Tire, - and they are supposed to be certified in safety inspections and if that is true they might have caused a safety issue with the bolts on brakes. They are not a MB dealer so maybe didn't know that but still should be checking when they have to do an inspection on a high end car like MB C63.

I would not be crazy worried about it, many people have reused those bolts, never heard of one breaking but they may when you try to remove or re-torque. That being said, if they are going to take **** apart that they should not have needed to anyway, they should know what the manufacturer calls for when it comes to putting it back together. Personally wouldn't let Can Tire touch my car but that is just me.

Canadian tire is the worst never take anything better than a 10 year old beater Kia there... but never drive an old Kia so just don’t take your vehicle there.
You in the Calgary area?

Didn't want to take the car to Crappy Tire but they were the only certified shop for out of province inspections that could take my car to do inspection before I got it home for registration. Anyway I won't be going there ever again.
Probably have a local Edmonton performance shop, - Eurasia Automotive, do any other work on the car.
I'm going to take the wheels off the car in my garage this weekend and try to deglaze the rotors to see if that helps with the squealing at slow braking point just before stopping. Never squeals any other time so maybe the shop got some grease on the rotors or pads when they took them apart.

I guess no one ever answered the squeal question - my guess would be that typically the squeal will com from the little lip that you get as the rotors wear and the pad catching it a bit, my guess is by taking it apart, there is just a tiny bit of play in the bolt hole when you bolt them back on and that would be enough to move the pads just slightly closer to the outside lip on the rotor and cause a squeak. My guess is it may go away after a bit as the pad wears a little.

Thanks roadkillrob, that makes sense. I'm going to take one wheel off and look at the lip on the rotor to see if maybe that's the case.

Try doing a bedding procedure on the brakes and that may work. Also some have reported a hard brake from a high speed may also remove the squeal, at least for a while. Just don't bring the car to a full stop and drive without applying the brakes for a while to allow the discs to cool down.
