Well i was planning on just upgrading the cam adjuster, changing the pulleys to aluminium ones from weistec and installing a catchcan.

I have since ordered new injectors, and i am tossing up replacing my lifters with updated ones from the sls/sls bs. I am hesitant to pull the trigger on this till I can find a good solution for the camshafts, as i figured I may as well replace those at the same time while the engine is open. Probably a good idea to do the headbolts as well

Plenty to do, but why the head bolts if you already have the new version? If not then probably the way to go

If im doing cams and lifters i may as well replace my headbolts with ARP ones for piece of mind and because the engine is open anyway.

Hello there, we are running them on a couple of test cars, here in UAE, Europe and Asia. Very soon we will release them and the prices that have been discussed before will be also changed since we got a lot of inquiry and that helps to manufacture higher numbers and make things more affordable for all of us.

If you happen to talk with Tasos, I’m still looking for a bunch of worn out camshaft adjusters.

Has anyone made a cam that makes a power peak of 8000-9000 RPM? For someone wanting to make over 700HP N/A?

I doubt it. Aftermarket cam options for these cars is very limited, and the people who do make them charge north of $6000 for anything that isn’t a regrind.

Even then, you’d be hard pressed to find anyone with an ECU file that would be able to take advantage of it, unless you paid for dyno time and someone with the ability to adjust parameters on scene.

Sls bs cams should make close to 700 with supporting mods and a proper tune. Like mentioned about it’s the tuning that’s the tricky part on these motors when you get into cam swaps

I thought someone tried SLSBS cams and could barely make stock power.

supposedly Kleeman Cams are rebranded SLS or SLS BS cams.

you'll need to optimize cam timing to utilize the potential of these camshafts. with that in mind, you'll probably lose low and mid range as these cams are most likely larger. for the cost, best to pickup something aftermarket.

We are aware that increasing duration on a cam will shift the torque peak to the right, so you lose some downlow to gain some up high.

dadsc63 used the stock sls cams and couldn’t make the power they should have. I believe it’s the variable cam timing on the cars and or the tuning. The intake on the sls may play a role as well and something similar would probably be needed to maximize power.

The stock C63 intake manifolds was not good for higher RPM. ( I believe it's a limiter at 7500 and beyond )

On guys that swapped on the SLS intakes without any other changes they gained about 30rwhp and the HP peak shifted to the right, and it held onto power much longer ( that intake is literally good to 9000+ RPM out of this displacement )

A question for you Barry.
In a recent Tasos video he mentioned that one of the restrictions on the C63 as opposed to all the bigger car 63's was that the throttles only open to 70% maximum.
Wondering if you had noticed this in your tuning?
If this is true then companies selling bigger throttles and matching box tunes could be just selling us snake oil.
As mentioned by djr48312 about the SLS intake being better than stock 63 intake maybe this 70% thing has a bit to play also.
Remembering the W211 E63 makes more hp than equivalent C63 using same intake manifold.

They've known about the 70% throttle thing since about 2009... It's widely known the Mercedes intentionally limited the smaller and lighter C63 so it wouldn't smoke the E63 and S63.

About the SLS intake, if you look at the design it's an intake based upon shorter runner lengths, which are a continuation of the runners in the cyllinder head. So it's good for 9000 RPM operation.

The C63 intake is a longer runner design which slightly increases lower rpm torque with the tradeoff of less RPM.

SLS aside would opening the throttles more than 70% on std intake make any differrence.
Someone on here said a while back that the E63 Y piece feeding the intake was worth HP over the std C63 Y due to its slightly larger volume.

Old news. That throttle opening 70% kills around 50HP... They did it on purpose. The engine makes 510-520 HP at the engine when it's not artificially liimited and not the original 460 HP as it's rated on the C63's.

All of the custom tuners ECU programs allow for 100% throttle opening to get the full power of the engine.

can't say for certain...i have a set of 82mm throttles and adapter plate sitting here. i was going to throw them on to see what benefits they'd produce but rather put my money towards camshafts. i'd sell the setup for anybody who may be interested. as far as throttles opening 70%, yes thats what the consensus is. I actually don't have a data log of a stock C63 tune to do a comparison. all of my customers send me a data log based off my base map. i make adjustments from that. my base map has the throttles opening 100%.

So I’ve cracked the cracked lobes issue.. This is after a few attempts. Finally I’ve gotten the camshafts to take a case hardening treatment without hitting the pooper. This case is slick and a diamond file will glance and slide over it and harder to boot.
So definitely nowhere near as heavy as billet and a non-issue with tuning. Should respond very well to higher rev range too because of its properties. A few more things to tinker with but I’d say this is a small win.

I’ve been mulling things over pretty much ever since I started down the M156 rabbit hole.

If I ever machine anything out of billet for these engines, it’ll be made from 300M. We use it in landing gear and (relatively) low speed transmission components. The stuff is like unobtanium. The stuff is extremely dense.

It will through harden up to 55HRc.

Go Team- gives me an idea. I’ll DM and see what you think.
