oil cooler fan electrical issue

I have a 2012 C63 and im having an issue with my oil cooler fan. When i first bought the car a couple months ago, my oil temps were rising pretty fast and not going down and i found that the fuse in the trunk was blown for the oil cooler fan causing the fan to never turn on. I replaced the fuse and everything was good for a while, the fan would turn on and regulate the oil temp fine. Now i am realizing that the fan has not been kicking on all the time when it should and when i check the fuse its still good. Once i remove the fuse and put it back in the fan will instantly start working again. Now every time i notice the oil temp going a little too high i have to go to the trunk and remove the fuse and put it back in for the fan to kick on. Any one have any experience with an issue like this? It is the 20amp fuse in the single purple plug in the trunk.

Not sure if this can help, but if I was confronted with this problem, my first step would be to put in a new fuse, even if the old one seemingly still works. While doing that I would check for any faulty connection or oxidation in the fuse holder.

20A sounds low for that. Check the fuse map first to make sure it’s the right one.

There's a 20A Maxi fuse for the motor itself under the hood and an ATO 20A for the fan relay in the trunk.

Nice, that must be what the fuse in the trunk feeds for the signal..

Where did you get that diagram?

I fitted a bigger center cooler, removed my auxiliary fan and the highest oil temp I've seen 109C was today driving hard in 36C heat on face lift C63 estate.
Like some have said the auxiliary fan is more of a blockage to air flow than a help.
The fan is only designed to help in stop start traffic.

Did you remove the fan from the housing or just unplugged it?

I removed it completely.
No point unplugging and leaving in place as the motor is quite big and fan blades small so would cause a bit of obstruction.
Unplugging hasn't caused any CEL's.
3rd pic down shows opening to auxiliary oil cooler without fan.
Left the wiring plug cable tied up with rubber cap to keep it clean from water and debri.
leave the rubber gasket in place as it mates to the front facia.

Good, so that's the way I'll go when I get round installing the bigger cooler.
