Cam wear 2014 m156 29k miles
Hello all, taking care of a couple things with my c63 before I drop to shop for headers install- hit the pass side valve cover and noticed this wear- wondering if I should
be worried, did not do the driver side yet but will post pics in the comment section when I do
car is stock with 29k miles, not really mechanically inclined enough to know if something is wrong

Hard to tell much from those pics, close ups of the tips of the lobes where the wear occurs are needed to really see anything.

Please take better photos.
Get a number of lights (not directed at the cams, but to lighten the area greatly and in a diffused way)
take close ups that are in perfect focus and do not use your camera/phone flash.
Crop to the areas you wish to highlight

Yea, agreed as above. We need to see better photos of cam lobes and what you think looks likes excessive wear. Tbh as you stated you're not really mechanically inclined that you are just confusing normal wear as something that may be premature or detrimental.

Not to hijack the thread, but I will be inspecting the cams on my 2014 507 this weekend. Stupid question, but which battery (front vs trunk) should be disconnected when working on the engine?

Normally no, once when I had my airbag out and didn't get the plug on fully I got an airbag light and had to reset, otherwise never had an issue disconnecting and reconnecting the battery with anything else.

they all have about that sort of discoloration after a while. if you have the updated lifters and run high quality oil, you won't generally have wear more than this. the factory camshafts are heat treated in a way that causes them to discolor as they wear through their alloy treatment process. if any of your lobes begin losing their pointed ends, then you'll need to begin looking into replacement camshafts, but even then they'll work, just won't have as much lift.

I little hard to tell from the pic, they look good, but best to get a close up pic directly on top fo the lobe, but from your pics I don't see much wear.
Typically what you start to see right on the lobe tip is concentric rings as the layers of the plating are worn through and eventually when it goes through the hard coating you start to see some pits in the casting.
