Headers Install Problem - Leak + Tightening Rear 2 Upper Nuts

Hi everyone,

Back to the C63 platform after a few years I知 installing VRP headers and I知 having an issue tightening the 2 upper rear nuts in the passenger side (rear as in closer to the collector). How did you guys reach those? The only tiny space I can see is between the primaries and a 11mm wrench barely fits. I知 attaching a couple pictures for reference (not mine). Any tool or extension you might suggest?

Thanks!

I used an ordinary 11mm spanner

But i had my engine loose(not standing on enginemounts) and moved the engine as far as i could to each side to get some room for my rather large hands.

I used a 11 mm wrench and with one hand holding the wrench into the nut and the other hand rotating the wrench I slowly got it tight.
there痴 an angle you can get your arms up in there fairly comfortably. I also had the engine loose and jacked up a bit to get at it.

I bought various 11mm sockets and extensions to install my headers. I also had to use a snake camera on a couple of the bolts to see the angle and get the sockets onto the bolts. Was a major pain in the *** and a couple of the bolts took about a half an hour each.

Buy an 11mm ratcheting flex-head wrench and an 11mm offset wrench. It’ll make your life a lot easier.

I also remember finding some crazy angle going through the wheel well to get at a couple. Might want to get the car in the air and remove the fender liners to have a look if you haven’t already.

$550 is a fukin bargain for headers install. I’d take that deal in a heartbeat. One of the worst 8hrs spent in my life.

I was able to get one of the 2 upper nuts sorted. Now there is one left and I can稚 even put the nut in place to tighten it. Impossible! On top of that, 2 nuts already fell in between the primaries and it痴 impossible to get off unless I take the headers off (hell no at this point lol). Is that gonna be an issue (vibration or knocking?).

I知 already paying someone who has his garage. I would pay someone $550 to get all done. I知 in Portland, Oregon so I can pretty much do Oregon or Washington (Seattle area is 3 hrs away) but no one wanted to do it or they池e 2/3 months away to take it in. Summer is done by then :/

Magnetic pickup tool?
My nuts were just coated with copper, so if oem nuts they are magnetic.

They池e OEM. They fell in between the 2-1 collector and there is no clearance to guide the magnetic tool. I値l give it a try a few more times and see how it goes.

During the install the guy broke the clock spring 🤦🏻‍♂️ He saw the steering wheel moving freely and he said he connected everything so he turned it one spin and *creek*.

I have 2 problems aside from that. I think there is a leak somewhere (I left the guy who was installing the headers for 2 hours earlier and he put on the VRP gaskets instead of the OEMs I bought). Are those leaky? Can someone tell me from the video if what I say is correct? He says there is no leak but I知 100% there is a leak. Listen to the videos please.

In the second video (engine bay area) there is a high pitch/whistle noise (this was present prior to the headers). Is this the PCV? I did take the oil dipstick out but it still remained there.

I didn't listen to the vid but an exhaust leak is like a tick tick tick hiss, not a constant his.
