Camshaft Adjuster Plates - Aftermarket Replacement??
Hey all, my vehicle is in for headbolts and the camshaft (intake) adjusters are skipping. I need to replace both and I am wondering if anyone has ever bought the adjuster plate itself and replaced that piece only?
I am also being given the option to refurb / rebuild that plate by another shop that says they would just weld and ensure the gap on the plate is correct again so the pin doesn't slip out like its doing now. Is that a bad idea?
I have no scoring or marks on the lobes and the valve buckets are good as well.
Cost of new cam adjusters is $2200 CAD
Cost to refurb each adjuster is $120 CAD
The shop says they won't guarantee the work if I choose to go with the refurb option..
Videos to show them skipping:

Should I go this route and spend the extra dough or just get the existing plates refurbed?
Car is at the shop already on their hoist and they want to put it back together asap as the new headbolts are in already!

I just bought stage 2 CA plates from 63motorsports and will be doing this myself next week. Best to get the plates from these guys and be done with it. Getting a refurb or new set will eventually cause the same issues again.

Generally yes the pin is very hard and wears the hole in the plate into a teardrop shape, the 63motorsports one are hardened so they wear less and come with new pins also and should last a lot longer and are a lot cheaper than new CA's.

I fitted stage 1 plates & pins to mine about 4-5 months ago and has run perfect since start up.

Am very happy with their price and service even to Australia.

I did the install/changeover myself in my driveway during my cars last service.
Beside the plates, only cost me in gaskets, oil, filter etc from FCP Euro.
I already had the cam timing tool from when I fitted new lifters just after I purchased the car in 2018.
