Camshaft Adjuster

My C63 has a 1-2 second rattle on cold starts that started to happen recently. I plan on purchasing Stage 1 plates from 63 motorsport if I can find a local mechanic that can fit them.

Is there anything else that should be replaced while the covers are open?

Hey mate,
depends on your budget. But i upgraded my lifters to the sls bs lifters whilst i had my cam adjusters changed.

Good idea to do the injectors and pulleys at the same time.

I'm in the same boat. I'm going to open passenger side cover to look at the condition of the lobes/lifters. Updating the new lifters might be worth it if the cams are in ok shape.

I recently experienced the dreaded rattle myself—my car sat for a week and upon start up it rattled.

At 120k on the motor, I'm having all four adjusters done (Found a dealer online that did the adjusters for $490 ea (no tax) but that was still an $2K kick in the *****), revised lifters (The OE INA lifters are still back ordered so had to get MB ones for $16 ea), camshafts were OK. And since mine's an 09, headbolts and head gaskets, and with the heads off, did the motor mounts too. My mechanic was dead set on *not* doing head bolts one at a time, even if i waived liability. A second indy had the same opinion.

Reco was to also do the crankcase vent valve since the intake was off but I did it myself a service or two ago when I did plugs and injectors.

there should be a list of worldwide shops that do the adjuster work on the main 63motorsports.com page. $2k for adjusters that get outlived by the valve cover gaskets don’t sound appealing really.

No reason to ever buy new Mercedes adjusters, they never updated them so they just wear out again, some people say they hear rattling as quickly as 10 or 15k after replacements, best to save a bunch of money and do the 63motorsports repair kit as it is an improvement over the original mercedes parts, replaces everything that actually wears and saves you a whole bunch of money for something better.

Rob has said it best, the OEM Mercedes adjusters are trash. No reason to replace the OEM adjusters with OEM units as you will find yourself back at square one eventually.
I got a quote from Mercedes prior to looking into the 63motorsports adjusters, and they quoted me MORE than what 63motorsports quoted me for a stage 3 kit. If memory serves I was looking at almost $8k in parts and labour if I took it to a dealer to replace with OEM units.

Save yourself a future headache and get a set of upgraded adjusters from 63motorsports. At least that way you'll be sure you wont ever have to worry about them ever again.

It's on my list of things to do. I'm at 70k and have the rattle frequently now. It's a big job. Fairly straightforward if you look into it what is required. You need a timing tool and torque wrench. A lot of people replace the updated lifters while in there.

Well.. the rattle has gotten worse since an oil change to Fuchs 5w40. I'm not sure if that's just coincidence but it now rattles on most warm start ups.
