Is the auxiliary oil cooler really needed?
My one in the wheel was damaged and leaked, I refused to pay Mercedes the £1100 paid quoted and the wait to get it in., so I adapted the oil lines into a universal same size an10 oil cooler from ebay.
Working fine, but I did think about just joining the two pipes together and do away with the whole thing.
Car is never tracked and is 2008 model

I still also have the front mount installed also
So maybe even improved the cooling
I believe the OEM arch cooler has a bypass thermostat so you may see your oil taking longer to heat up to temp.
I have retained all the original oil lines and not cut anything. I didn't see any thermostat inside the old cooler as I cut it open as was going to use where the oil pipes go into, but I tested the time on the temp of the oil up to 90 before and after and it's the same. Maybe slightly cooler but the ambient temp could of been slightly different I suppose.
Its saved me around £800, it's something that's not seen either as tucked away.
My original point was or just asking for a normal driving to work and back car and used as a second car that is that second cooler really necessary along with a big front mount.
I will take some photos soon when I double check for leaks in a week or so
It was brand new, not used, second hand to me, I believe it was for a high spec subaru sti, it was a tight fit in height, but I still managed to get the fan and cowling all in fine.
It was adapting the standard Mercedes oil lines that was the issue and I didn't want to cut anything, but got round it, and if a decent standard oil does come up I can just reinstall it without issue
