Power steering fail - no codes or dash warnings
Lost power steering.
Loss happened immediately on stomping it to assist in a tight U turn at roadworks on very dusty/slippery bitumen.
No dash warnings.
No DTC codes.
Engine belt in place and no indication of pump not being turned.
Multiple restarts and unplugged and reconnected ABS module wring connector.
Suggestions?

Just a wild guess, but if the belt is still on the pulley and the pump seems to turn, could the problem come from a broken axle inside the pump?

GRP- some more info for you in case it helps. My power steering recently failed, full lock turning into a car parking spot. It was a ruptured power steering hose. (Had to get Roadside assist flatbed truck from just outside of Geelong back to dealer in Melb!) After investigation, it turned out that because of sagging engine/transmission mounts the hose had been rubbing against the sub-frame and that’s how it ruptured. Keep an eye on the condition of your mounts. 2013 W204 C63.

Mr Jones - thanks for the input. My issue originated from a hose rubbing against the bottom of the sump - likely the problem started prior to my recent change of engine mounts.
The insane thing is the path that the hose takes from the pump to the rack. Even with LHD the hose weaves across the front of the car and back over to the left hand side of the rack (the pump is few hundred mm above and forward from the rack connection) . With RHD the hose extends past the left hand side of the rack and then weaves around the rear of the sump to get back over to the right hand side of the rack! I can only assume that having originally designed a convoluted hose for LHD, some German design boffin simply extended the same line with a big loop to adapt it to RHD instead of cutting the length in half. and making it simple.
I am getting the hose repaired by the local Pirtek branch but I am thinking I might eliminate the entire loop over to the left and back to the right and have a short easy to fit hose that goes down from the pump, across under the radiator and then goes direct to the right hand end of the rack.

The design boffin must have had a very rough night before to "invent" something like that, or was wanting to **** off his boss

Doing a little research re hose length and see there may be something for resonance frequency and reducing line noise.
That said, if they worked out the correct length for a left hand drive hose noise being minimised, you would thought that they would create a RHD hose of the same length.

The hose tech recommended that the line be as per original spec as nonsensical as it's routing was.
He did make it easier to fit by turning it into a 3 section jointed hose.
Telling that simply by looking at my hose in 2 pieces he said "looks like a C63".
