Good alternatives to Pilot Sport 4S?

I just ordered a new set of Michelin Polot Sport 4S's... $1800 for 4 tires mounted, balanced and aligned. And this was the quote from multiple shops. Maybe I'm crazy but I seem to remember being able to grab a set of these for $12-1300 or so not that long ago?

Well anyway, I'm thinking next time I may go with something a little lighter on the wallet. Are there any tires that are comparable to the 4S that cost a little less that you guys trust on your C63s?

Thanks in advance for the reccomendations!

ETA: I live in an area where I can run summer tires all year, so no need for all seasons or snow tires.

You can check Conti Extreme Sport Contact / Sport Contact 7:

rubber prices have gone up drastically during covid. combine that with global inflation due to consumers having FOMO and overspending, supply and demand has driven prices up for everything which affects tire prices even further.

good really depends on what you're looking for. i personally have never used PS4S due to cost, but i'm sure they're a hell of a lot better than my current tires, but for me, if I need more, i'll then move to R compound which i have a set of.

Not sure anything good or contis will be much less, I paid 900 just before Covid for a set of P4s on 18 inch wheels crazy how much more they are 4 years later.
I also found the contis loud as hell but last I had was sport contact 4”s, Michelins are super quiet comparatively.

Continental's best product is the ExtremeContact DWS06 Plus. I've been running a set of them on my M156-car for the last few years, mainly because it covers me fully for 3-seasons.

Quiet with a surprising amount of grip and one of the lightest tires on the market. If you're in an area that is warm, but sees a lot of rain, they will do well.

That said, for a true Summer tire / dry performance, Michelin has always offered the best in my experience.

I know it sucks that prices have gone up so much, but the more important variable is that the quality standard has not been compromised.

+2 on what HGL600 said. I've been impressed with the Conti DWS on my girl's 4 series BMW.

I just got a set of Falken Azenis FK510's, mounted for $1300, 19's all around. They aren't going to be quite as performance oriented as the Michelins but they are pretty damn good for UHP summer street tires. Great wet traction and compared to the Nitto Invos I was using before are way better balanced.

As per above video, I have the Contact SP7’s and agree with what he said in the video. The best road tyre I have had without going to super sticky tyres.

They are better than the Michelin’s imo.

Comparable how? Comparable in dry grip level, wet grip level, longevity, quality (degradation over time)? You can find tires that are a little cheaper and are comparable in any ONE or TWO of the previous characteristics - but you will NOT find anything that favourably compares to the MPS4S that is as good as in ALL areas. Period.

I've used the Contis and while their initial performance is similar to the MPS4S WHEN THEY ARE NEW, they fall off rather rapidly (and furthermore develop balance issues over time) so you'll end up replacing them sooner. The Falkens are nowhere *near* the Michelins (or for that matter the Contis) in any way.

If you want to go with something a little lighter on the wallet, buy a cheaper and less powerful car. The tires are the only thing holding the (~500hp RWD) car to the road... is that what you really want to skimp on?

The #1 thing I will be looking for in a tyre is bead protector.

I have Pirelli on my other W204 C200 and they have a very good bead protector so will be shopping Pirelli when the time comes for the C63.

Wish they were standard on all tyres.

Some rims are more susceptible to kerb damage and that little rubber ridge can be a godsend.

Best I have experienced is on Goodyears but they do not have anything I would want on the C63.

Likely putting the Conti SP7 on soon to replace the Michelin Super Sports.

Just fitted Michelin PS5 to the BMW M140i that only got just over 15,000 ks on Michelin Pilot Super Sports with my light footed wife driving.

To stop accidental kirb rash on the rims.

The thing I noticed about Michelin tyres is the tread depth of a new tyre is less than other brands.

i know. I just wanted you to say it. No way in hell I sacrifice performance to prevent curb rash. But it’s your car.

I love my yokohama AD08R's.
fantastic grip for a summer tyre. They were slightly cheaper than the PS4S's, and didn't need to be ordered in.

No complaints from me so far!

And in the wet?

In 99% of places in Oz we use summer performance tyres all year round.

Works fine for me in the wet. I'll get a little spin off the line if i absolutely mash the accelerator. If im driving normally/spiritedly without being a muppet, they grip just fine
