2013 C63 Black Series Coupe Conversion Build

Hello Fellow W204 Owners!

I wanted to share some progress pictures of my wife's 2013 C63 AMG Coupe that I'm converting into a Black Series.

Here are a list of upgrades that the car already has or will include when finished:
  1. OEM C63 AMG Black Series Exhaust (Mufflers & Resonator)
  2. OEM C63 AMG Black Series Muffler Tips
  3. OEM C63 AMG Black Series Wheels
  4. HDtuning ECU Tune
  5. VRP Long-Tube Headers
  6. M156 ROW Airboxes
  7. VRP Intake Tubes
  8. Fiberglass body kit with real carbon fiber accents
I originally wanted to have the car be painted Solarbeam Yellow, but I couldn't convince my wife. Car will remain white after conversion.

Here are the pictures of the body kit:

Will continue sharing pictures as project progresses.

Cheers

Bodyshop installation pictures:

The (3) grilles that came with the aftermarket front bumper look awful and will be upgraded to OEM Black Series grilles within the coming weeks.

Was the right front tweaked a bit before this started?

I’m not sure, but the bodyshop did mention that some minor modifications were required to get the front bumper to fit.

Congrats on the purchase and good luck with the project!
There's another member here that is also going through the same process, thread here.

Please keep us updated, I'm really curious how the front grill sections go! That was going to be one of my questions to sort out before buying the kit....if I ever grew the courage to have the car chopped up that much.
Can you share which kit you went with on this? Is this the one from darwin pro?

Cheers!

Thank you @BHimself! I'll be sure to keep you posted on the front grille sections.

The Darwin Pro front grill sections look better than this kit. The kit I purchased is from China and not from Darwin Pro, but much cheaper than Darwin Pro's.

I'm hesitant to share the company's contact info as I've had some issues with them since purchasing the kit.

The carbon fiber hood has some waviness to it. The body shop recommended I purchase a fiberglass hood instead since fiberglass is easier to work with than carbon fiber.

If the installation works out at the end of the day then I'll share their contact info here.

Cheers

If you're looking for a different hood, I can't whole-heartedly recommend one, but I spent a bit of time researching what CF hoods are left in the world for us to buy. I even went back to an old thread on the topic here, to find 1/2 of the companies just aren't around anymore sadly. My ~5 year ago prior thoughts on this was the Mode Carbon hood looked to have the best reviews, but with all their story, I decided to keep looking.

6 Months ago, I went with the VIS Racing DTM Style Black Carbon Fiber Hood Mercedes C63 AMG 12-14, found here.

Since it doesn't fit inside the car obviously, I had it shipped direct to the body shop. I then didn't get a huge amount of time with it before it was prepped and painted, but here's a couple images.

Hood vents are functional, though I can't say super effective. I had a PFL 2011 C63 with Dad's vented hood (his actual one that he ran on his beast) , and that did drop temps down a few degrees. I was/am-currently running SRG's enhanced oil cooler so I can't say if normal cooling conditions would make this any better, but I don't see any delta from the hood though.

Weave was actually pretty decent and only had 2 SMALL blemishes in the clear coat (which for me got painted over just fine, and I didn't care)

Build quality/Sturdiness seems decent. Since December, I've had it up to ~130MPH and while I can see it flex ~3mm by the wiper areas, so far so good....

Install however, the body shop said the fitment wasn't super great and they had to take a fair amount of time to get it lined up. I wasn't there for that nor did I talk to the tech directly, but through the shop's manager. YMMV.

Cheers,

My thoughts as well. It's had a poorly repaired front collision

VIS is known for not having the best fitment. I wonder if that's the brand OP went with?

@blurred the car is salvage title and was previously involved in a minor front-end collision. The damage looks much worse in the picture than reality. Front grille, both headlights, radiators, and bumper brackets needed to be replaced.

Bodyshop confirmed no frame damage—which was my biggest concern. The fitment issues are primarily from the fiberglass kit being fiberglass and not coming with any brackets or mounts.

This is what the car looked like before purchase:

Also, curious that that’s the only thing you could point out in this Black Series build 😉

Remove Before Racing’s video review of the C63 AMG Black Series does a great job at highlighting the “apocalyptic” and uncanny sound of its exhaust.

This is one half of the OEM C63 AMG Black Series exhaust before installation:

and the OEM C63 AMG Black Series front bumper that I’m keeping as a spare:

Don't get bent about it, was simply an observation that these parts didn't appear to be going on a straight car. Meaning even more finessing than normal will take place.

@1JDM911 Hey David! Great to see you on here. Your white C63 BS was a big inspiration for this build.

This one will be a lot easier (and faster) than the CLK63 BS and CLK-DTM projects.

The aftermarket solutions for the W204 are much more abundant than for the W209.

Excited to share the finished product with you when it’s all done 😀

As another member also noted it was just a confirmation of another persons observation. It appeared that everything was repaired except for the hood and possibly the hood mechanism

It is very hard to get frame damage on these from a front end fender bender due to the frame extensions that MB uses, so you actually have to smack the engine pretty hard to get that far back, and the aluminium frame extensions (i seem to recall they are aluminium...) are just a bolt on part so easily replaceable. My car had a minor front end tiny collision (still $$$) similar to that one, bolted off and bolted on hood, bumper, cooling pack, headlights, grille, and fenders, pretty simple but expensive but no effect on the car.

Wrong rocker panels as well. The car definitely was put back together incorrectly. Hate to see how the mechanical work was done.

Did someone destroy your Cheerios? It amazes me how many smooth brains there are in this forum.

Anyone can criticize and be a cynic. It’s not complicated.

It requires more gap between the synapse to be creative and bring value to the post.

Give it a try.

you bought a car that’s been butchered in its repair, you are focusing on fixing that we get it. You complaining about smooth brains but have enough Brains yourself to see the car is clearly messed up. Like I said I’d be concerned about the mechanical repairs done on the car before any cosmetics. If they can’t line up a hood / use wrong rocker panels etc…I can almost guarantee the mechanics is butchered too:

don’t get upset, learn….until than good luck with your problem.

I'm not sure if anyone has pointed it out yet, but it appears that your car has suffered a front end collision and was poorly repaired. While I don't want to sound repetitive, I believe that it's more important to prioritize the mechanical aspect of the car before focusing on the exterior. I am joking, of course. I’m impressed with the build and excited to see future updates. It's not often that we come across builds that go beyond just LTH and a tune.
