Calling All Carbon Fiber Hood Owners
So I’ve researched the available CF hoods on the market and have collected some data based on weight reduction and price point but I could use the forums feedback regarding quality and fitment. I know with aftermarket hoods there will need to be adjustments made when installing but I’m aiming for minimal work/mods. Most importantly I’m planning on leaving it exposed CF so definitely no major sanding etc that would otherwise be concealed by paint.
Brand (style) / price / weight:
VIS Racing (DTM) / $1550 / 31lbs
Darwin Pro Aero (Black Series) / $800 / ???
Carbon Creations (Black Series) / $1300 / 25lbs
Seibon (DTM) / $1530 / ???
MHP Dads 63 / $1900 / 13lbs (dry carbon)
Mode Carbon PFL (Black Series) / $1300 / 27 lbs
Mode Carbon FL (Black Series) / $3000 / 27lbs
If the hood you own isn’t listed I’d still like to hear about it!

Mode Carbon has a full carbon fiber hood. I think it is around $3200.

I have this one - VIS Racing (DTM) / $1550 / 31lbs
I have an old thread or two with plenty of pics but I am too lazy to scroll through all of the pages of my subscribed threads.
The fit and finish of the VIS DTM CF hood is fantastic. I'll see if I can add a pic or two here for you.

So I just spoke with Mode Carbon and although they do not show the hood on their website they do carry fitment for both base and 507 models.
I also heard from Carbon Creations. They confirmed their hoods are about 25lbs. Updated pricing and info above.

Yup, that's one of the pics. Great fitment on the hood. Although I didn't specifically weigh the piece I would think 31 lbs is quite close. The underside is aluminum?, but it's definitely not CF top and bottom. I would inquire into the underside of the 25 lb one you found. Good luck finding what you're looking for.

If weight didn't matter at all I'd just wrap my stock hood in CF vinyl and call it a day

FYI facelift hood is aluminum and already pretty light. Cut holes and install vents if you want them and save yourself a bunch of money. That’s what I’m doing next week.
Pre-facelift hood is steel, so there’s going to be significant savings there (~20lbs) whether it’s all carbon or overlay on FRP.

They're all over eBay. I like this one, but not sure why it's $33, and not sure if the screw is long enough.

I got the strap from the Sparco website. It’s made of ballistic nylon and rated to 6600# and my car has already been dragged by it multiple times. I need it to work and it does.
The cheap shït you see on eBay that screws into the OE location will most likely break upon first use. They are cosmetic only and have zero weight rating.

No, actually that’s wrong. My tow strap is bolted directly to the frame. I didn’t use the OE tow hook location, and that bumper hole got shaved off.
