W204 C63 Power Steering issues
Hello all hope everyone is doing well,
I'm looking for some advice regarding my 2012 w204’s c63 power steering. My car is not a LSD car and it’s sitting at 27k miles currently. My power steering pump failed about 4 weeks ago after some donuts.I had no power steering when the car was on the lower side of the rev range and it was under 20mph. Over that speed the car handled perfectly. I had no leaks and no messages on my dashboard. I replaced my pump that I purchased from a Mercedes dealer . My mechanic put on the pump and when flushing the system he noticed that there were metal shavings from the pump since I had to drive the car on a broken power steering pump for about 100 miles. We proceeded to flush the system another 2 times and most of the metal shavings were gone and the car was perfectly fine. 4 weeks later, I started doing the same thing as before and the same issue occurred. Once again I had to drive the car about 120 miles back to my house and then to the dealer where I purchased the pump from. One week after I dropped the car off I get a call saying that they will replace the pump free of cost as long as I get a new power steering rack as well as hoses since it’s going to keep occurring. I explained to them that the metal shavings are in the fluid because I had to drive the car home and they said it’s impossible to get the metal shavings out of the system and that I need a new power steering rack which they quoted me 4,900 for. I spoke to the mechanic that put on my previous pump and he told me it has nothing to do with the rack, and the dealer is just trying to screw me over. To get my car back from the dealer is a $500 diagnostic fee. Has anything similar ever occurred to anyone else before? Does anyone have any suggestions or advice on what I can do in this situation ? Definitely learning my lesson after this experience. Thank you so much in advance

Replace the power steering reservoir, there is a filter in there which is not replaceable, Now these cars are getting on abit people are having power steering issues because of this and doing the donuts didn’t help this further.

While the PS pump may be where the shavings came from, they can also come from the rack & pinion gears grinding - so your mechanic is not necessarily correct. If the pump (and fluid) were replaced two weeks earlier and it killed the new pump and you again have metal flakes in the fluid, it would indeed seem that it is something other than the pump, namely the rack itself.
Even assuming that it is not the rack, there is no way that I know of for you to completely flush out the system. For as long as you've got metal shavings in it, it will keep overworking the PS pump and damaging the rack seals. I think you might need a new steering rack after all.

Stop doing donuts, this isn't a Charger you paid 40 easy payments of $39.99 for.
The idea this car was "made for this" is dubious at best so save yourself the trouble after you get this worked out.

Sounds like you are not able to learn here. Lessons with these cars only get more expensive. Post up your VIN so we can be on the lookout for your car on auction sites. Good luck.

Seems like you can't mind your own business. You learn from your mistakes and I most definitely have in this situation. I was asking for advice not criticism!
