Regardless of what I think of the new C63, I don't get hung up on the number. It's always been marketing. The number on the back of cars always stood for power level. It just so happened that in the past, it was tied to engine displacement, because the higher the displacement the more power it made. Then came turbos and the Turbo badge started to signify power. In the 80s it went so far as that they started to slap Turbo badges on household appliances such as mixers and vacuum cleaners. Now we are back to Turbo no longer meaning the car actually has a turbo. With most 911s now having turbos, but there is still the 911 Turbo it only means power now. Taycan Turbo anyone? Audi for example has moved to very neutral numbers signifying the power level of the car. 40, 45, 50 and 55 signify the level of power. It no longer means anything else. Even the numbers are basically random. 63 for AMG has historical meaning, but in essence it stands for the power level as well. Just doesn't really matter.

Yeah, watched several of them. Started to tune out when they were talking about stability and efficiency. Very different car. No longer a hooligan. Made for people w/o the skills to drive frankly. The electronics are doing most. Yes, it has drift mode, but that's when the heavy weight comes to the surface. The electronics seem to be able to hide the weight at the expense of a much less playful car. The wide spread of the drive modes is interesting, but then again, what I really like about my C63 is that it doesn't drive like a C300 in Comfort mode, which is what this one kinda does. You have to put it in Race mode to really get something interesting. All this having to use kickdown and boost mode and not having all the power all the time seems silly. Getting the full power is very digital. You get lower controllable power up to the kickdown switch, but then it's a 0/1 for full power. Not sure how I feel about that. I think this car will attract a new kind of customer. One that just wants to drive a video game, instead of being challenged by the car. More than half of what makes the current C63 interesting is that it wants to kill you if you don't know what you are doing and it demands driving skills. That's all gone with this one.

Yup. Not having the V8 basically changed the whole character of the vehicle, it is now soulless. As you mentioned, the theme of this vehicle over all is definitely on the digital side as I also don't understand why is there a IWC digital clock in the screen I noticed it too in the A 45s facelift driving scenes, wasn't the reason they removed it on the facelift W213 due to expiration of licensing and what is the point of having an IWC clock in digital form. I understand there is no actual IWC movement in the physical form in the previous C 63s though...

So back to Top Gear's video that was posted yesterday for a second, AMG's chief technological officer Jochen Hermen did answer the host's few questions at timestamp 10:10, here is what they said (pretty much exactly):
A: What I'm interested is, with the switch to hybrid it's going to be controversial for people who love the V8 (J:Yah), was it forced upon you by legislations? (J:no) or is it something the engineers chose to do (J: yah) because it makes the performance better?
J: Yes, if you go back some years, you know, we were sitting there said okay we can do another V8.
A: So you would've been able to get another V8 through the test cycle the emissions, (J: yah), this would've been possible (J: yah yah yah) because (J: yah) we have the V8s in the other cars, that's not the problem but we know that we had to go to we have to transform to the future and so we thought how can we make a car more efficient and giving the more power to the customer and maybe a broader bandwidth to the customer, this is exactly what we do here.
Anyways, as you can tell I am not convinced about his explanation of the team's decision making process but it is what it is.

If North America didn't announce the discontinuing of the A 45, I think it would had made more sense to get the facelift A 45s that got announced yesterday especially with less complexity compared to the W206 C 63s e performance, and for those who want physical buttons for the climate controls, etc. for example. That being said, this gen A 45 (including the s which never came to North America as we all know) facelift or not will never really replace the C 63s.

not sure why we need the W206 c63 e performance when we have something like this (well excluding North America) but this one is tuned: https://mbworld.org/articles/tuned-a...great-sleeper/
or a few years ago, https://www.motor1.com/news/391714/m...renntech-tune/ (592 hp)
Think about it, same engine other than being longitudinal mounted but the A 45s is way lighter, less complicated, no such thing as out of battery losing horsepower, (although the engine is pushed to pretty much the limits still), more nimble because of the size, etc.

As for tuning to try and match up to this new gen of E performance models, changing anything from OEM spec is becoming a real concern in some Countries, not only will it void warranty, it voids insurance and in some places even road registration your best off just leaving them alone, if you want more power/performance you will have to buy something else which has it in stock form.

Many reasons besides the fact that it's not available in all markets, simple answer to that would be for people who are not interested in or need a 5 door hatch.

If not for anything else this new 206 series is a good looking vehicle. Pity MB didn't go that extra step and produce bespoke panels and wider track to bulge out the rear end. Might still happen later with sightings of such a test mule out there.
Pic there of one in Alpine grey looks fantastic.
